Inspiring Collecting – Contemporary Ceramics
A series of free talks from the experts on how to collect contemporary visual art, this event returns in 2011 thanks to the support of Vogue Living. Inspiring collecting talks are held on Saturdays at 11am and 3pm on Saturdays at selected galleries in the focus arts precinct. At Rex Irwin Art Dealer, Andrew Shapiro will give his perspective on the secondary market in contemporary ceramics, Louise Boscacci will provide the artist’s perspective and Rex Irwin will represent the dealers perspective.
Artist of the Day: Lori Buff
Bio:
I fell in love with pottery when I was a junior in high school. This love of creating clay forms led me to decide that I was going to be a potter when I grew up. I was accepted at The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University based on my portfolio work.
Little did I know, I would never grow up.
After leaving school, I traveled around the country in a 1971 Pinto with extended stays in New York, Virginia, Wisconsin and Birmingham. I eventually settled in Atlanta, GA where I tried for 27 years to live the life expected of me, working corporate jobs and such.
I have finally returned to the wheel and to the career that has been calling to me to get “back down to Earth.” I now throw at my studio in East Atlanta Village . My award-winning works have been shown in juried shows in the New York and Atlanta Metro areas including the Telephone Factory Lofts Art Show and the Inman Park Festival.

Genesee Pottery Call for Entries: College Clay Collective 2011
The best in college ceramics at the Firehouse Gallery at Genesee Pottery. Juried by Kathy King: Visiting Artis Program Coordinator, Assistant to the Acting Director and Instructor at the Office of the Arts Ceramics Program at Harvard. Entry fee; $15 for one entry, $20 for three entries The Firehouse Gallery at Genesee Pottery is seeking original ceramic work from emerging artists who are currently enrolled in a college program. Work may be functional or sculptural. Mixed media work must be predominantly ceramics. Time to give a little love back….
Maybe it’s because Hallmark is shoving candy hearts down my throat, or maybe it’s just because I have such amazing readers…but i reckon it’s time to give a little love back and share some more from the amazing readers of musing with another “Artist of the day” month. Think back to December of 2009 or April of 2009 (wow i let a whole year go by without a month long showcase? Why didn’t you all revolt?!)
So here’s the drill:
You – send me some jpeg images of your amazing (primarily clay based) work; a brief bio or write up about your work; a website link or means for your adoring fans to get in touch with you.
Me – I’ll promise to post an artist a day for the entire month of February. First come, first serve basis. If you send it, it will be posted. This is not juried.
Why? Because it’s a great way for you to get your work shown to a wide audience of art lovers that make up this wonderful and supportive clay community. Plus it makes the blog look extra special gorgeous on a day to day basis. And well, maybe just maybe, there might be a prize in the mix somewhere…..(gotta be in it to win it right?!)
