Now in its fourth year, LAST CALL has become one of the most anticipated juried ceramics exhibitions by makers and collectors alike.
LAST CALL is an annual survey of contemporary ceramics, whose intended function is geared towards storing, pouring, and drinking alcohol. The exhibition is open to every type of clay, temperature, and atmosphere. We will be looking for the very finest growlers, bottles, flasks, flights, steins, pilsners, mugs, goblets, rocks cups, liquor sets, sake sets, ice buckets, shots, etc!
Companion Gallery will be printing a full color catalog, hosting an opening gallery reception, and the entire exhibition will be available for sale online.

The exhibition opening will be held at our new location on Friday March 1st, 2019.

A FULL COLOR 8.5 x 11 print catalog will accompany the exhibition.
Participating artists will each receive a complimentary print copy.

- Open to US and CANADIAN residents 21 and up.

- Digital Images should be labeled with the artists last name, underscore, first letter of first name, and the entry #. (Example: Skippy McGrueber would be mcgrueber_s1.jpg, mcgrueber_s2.jpg, mcgrueber_s3.jpg, etc)
- Images must be print ready, well lit, in focus, 300 DPI cropped into a square sized to 1000 x 1000. Because we are printing a catalog, photography will be a determining factor during the jurying process. Please do not embed images in the body of the email. Sent them as attachments to the email.
- one detail of each entry is welcome and should be labeled as 1B, 2B, and 3B. See above.
- Photo TIP: To ensure your piece fits into a square format photo, shoot vertical pieces horizontally and horizontal pieces vertically before cropping. Images above are all good examples.

All work submitted should be fully functional and all glazes must be food safe. Our customers and collectors expect and deserve the highest level of craftsmanship. Be sure that feet are smooth and work is free of any sharp burs or cracks. Pourers should pour, corks or stoppers should seal properly, etc.
The Companion Gallery celebrates ALL forms of expression. However, because of the number of children that frequent the gallery we will not be accepting any work considered to be profane or vulgar.

Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill is currently offering a 3-month Ceramic Artist in Residence Program during the winter of 2019. Our goal is to give driven and self-directed artists the opportunity to enhance their personal, intellectual and creative growth by expanding their body of work or creating a specific project. Free from the distractions of everyday pressures, residents will be given time and space to concentrate on their work in the beautiful setting of Cape Cod and will be granted a shared exhibition in the Castle Hill gallery upon completion of their stay.
The residency runs from January 2 to March 31, 2019 and includes housing and studio space for $600/month. A total of two residents will be selected based on a review of application materials. Each resident will have a personal workspace in a shared studio and open access to the communal ceramics studio and kilns. Materials and firing fees are payable through Castle Hill at a discounted rate. Residents will share a furnished 2 bedroom apartment equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, living room, laundry, and internet access. It is highly recommended to have a car, as there are limited public transportation options and no grocery store within walking distance.
The ceramics facility at Castle Hill offers all standard studio equipment including wheels and a slab roller, as well as many kilns in excellent condition including several programmable electric kilns, a Bailey gas kiln, raku, salt, and a train style wood kiln. The studio barn is nestled in the gentle hills of Truro Massachusetts, just steps from the ocean. The Cape is rich with nature, art activities, beaches, and small-town charm.

Since 1987 there’s the artist house “Stadttöpferei”, based in the historical city centre of Neumünster, northern Germany. It is run by the Dr. Hans Hoch Foundation as a special place for art and artists for contemporary advanced ceramic art. The institution is evolving constantly and is characterized by numerous ceramic artists who have lived and worked here. Activities include regular exhibitions and workshops in the gallery or the International Ceramic Symposium, which took place in 2017 for the second time.
Due to the new internationally announced program “Ceramic Artist in Residence” that started in 2013, we offered the opportunity for young artists to live, work and exhibit at the residency house free of rent. This residency program were focused on dialog on contemporary positions of advanced ceramic art, intercultural exchange, as well as experiments with materials and audience.
Since 2016 there is the first time no age restriction and the exchange of different generations of artists is now central to the program “Ceramic Artist Exchange – Tandem”. For 2019, a jury will award 10 residencies to live and work here.
Conditions
This residency is designed to accomodate two artists from different generations (emerging / experienced) artists for 4 weeks free of charge and includes a well equipped ceramic studio, as well as a comfortable living space. The resident will be provided with basic materials and free electric kiln firings during the course of the residency. The studio space is open to the public during the day, artists are requested to be present and available for visitors giving them an insight into their creative process.
At the end of the residency a final public presentation in the form of a exhibition or performance, focussing on the work produced at Stadttöpferei, is expected. The artist also donate one representative work of art. It will be part of the final exhibition at the end of the residency year and the Stadttöpferei collection.
Application
Applications for the four-week stay in 2019 will be accepted latest until 29th September 2018. The residence program mainly supports artists who focussing on contemporary advanced ceramic art and who use clay as their primary material. The will for mutual exchanges and cooperation with the other older or younger fellow guest artist is a condition to apply. An age limit does not exist. This residency is only avaliable once for each artist.

2019 NCECA JURIED STUDENT EXHIBITION

The 2019 NCECA Juried Student Exhibition will run concurrently with Claytopia, the 53rd annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts, Minneapolis, Minnesota, March 27-30, 2019. Ceramic artists Steven Young Lee and Linda Lopez will select works for the exhibition at Soo Visual Arts Center. For the first time, consideration for the exhibition will be open to those studying in higher education degree granting and post-baccalaureate programs in the United States as well as Canada and Mexico. NCECA believes that those creating work offering new/exciting/thoughtful perspectives on the ceramic medium, expanding upon genres of creative production and inquiry are qualified as candidates for its Emerging Artist awards. An Emerging Artist may be at the early stages of receiving recognition for his/her work but is currently underrepresented through exhibitions or publications that might otherwise bring the work to wide attention. The intent of the award is to recognize, cultivate and amplify vital, new voices of creative endeavor in ceramics. The award enables these artists to reach broader national and international audiences and impact discourse in the field.
NCECA’s Emerging Artists program recognizes exceptional early career artists highlighting them to an international audience during NCECA’s Annual Conference and promoting them year round through the NCECA blog. The awards include opportunities for increased exposure through exhibition and special events.
