Minnesota New Institute for Ceramic Education (MN NICE) Application Deadline Approaching
Now entering its fourth year, MN NICE is an advanced certificate program that provides rigorous, personalized instruction for artists who are serious about taking the next step in their ceramic education. The program is designed to respond to the changing needs of students and give non-traditional students high-level training in ceramic materials, history and theory, and professional practice. Through instruction and individual mentorship, students build skills, knowledge, and insight necessary to create a personal and cohesive body of work.
MN NICE extends beyond the classroom to include artist lectures, gallery tours, and studio visits with established artists to take advantage of the rich ceramic resources throughout the Twin Cities, including those from academic and non-traditional routes of study, artists of other media, and arts administrators. The program strives to prepare students both artistically and professionally whether they are seeking gallery representation, applying for graduate school, or selling work to the public.
ABOUT: The program consists of three 8-week blocks of instruction, beginning in September and ending in May. During each block, the group meets for weekly seminars and field trips to museums, galleries, artist studios, and lectures. Throughout the year, participants have individual critiques with leading professionals in the field, helping them to focus their research and development of work. The program culminates with the submission of a graduation portfolio and a group exhibition in NCC’s Emily Galusha Gallery.

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT: The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce a call to artists for our “Plates, Platters, and Nothing Else Matters” exhibition. “Plates, Platters, and Nothing Else Matters” is a National Juried Competition of ceramic works. Tableware up to 12“ inches in diameter will be displayed on shelves, other work must be wired for wall hanging. The deadline for submission is May 1st, 2018.
Our juror, Roberto Lugo, will select approximately 80 works for exhibition. The juror will award a prize of $500 to the artist whose work earns first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place. There will be an additional $1000 “Muddies” prize. The winners will be posted on our website following the reception, where the prizes will be awarded. You do not have to be present to receive the award. The competition and exhibition is open to emerging as well as established artists. Please refer to the exhibition guidelines for complete details below.
JUROR:We are very pleased to have Roberto Lugo as our juror. Lugo is an American potter, social activist, spoken word poet, and educator. Lugo’s work draws together hip-hop, history and politics into formal ceramics and 2D works. Born in Philadelphia to Puerto Rican parents, Lugo began his career as a graffiti artist before discovering ceramics.
FUSION: The Ontario Clay and Glass Association is pleased invite to clay and glass artists who are in school, or within their first five years of practice, to participate in our inaugural emerging artist exhibition: BREAKTHROUGH.
BREAKTHROUGH will take place in Waterloo, Ontario at the Robert Langen Gallery on the campus of Wilfrid Laurier University in the Library building from June 1-29, 2018.
PURPOSE
To exhibit the best work of FUSION emerging artists executed since May 2016 in an exhibition called: BREAKTHROUGH which will be exhibited for four weeks at The Robert Langen Gallery, Wilfrid Laurier University.
To collect images of the recent work of FUSION members for publicity, documentary and archival purposes.

Awards will be given in the following categories*:

Pottery Supply House Glass Award of Excellence: $500 Gift Certificate
It is possible to win more than one award. FUSION reserves the right to withhold an award if there is no prize-worthy entry. Prizes will be awarded after selected works are examined.

The Emerging Artist Residency program encompasses two unique Fellowships, designed to provide up to four ceramic artists with an opportunity to be in residence for one year at Northern Clay Center, where they can develop their own work, as well as exchange ideas and knowledge with other ceramic artists.
Each residency recipient will have a shared, furnished studio space with 24/7 access to NCC’s facilities from September 1, 2018, to August 31, 2019. In addition to the workspace, each fellowship includes a materials and firing stipend and professional development and enrichment opportunities through NCC’s education, exhibitions, and sales gallery programs, for qualified and interested fellows. A group exhibition featuring work produced during the fellowship period will take place in January 2020, at Northern Clay Center, at the conclusion of the grant period. Recipients have the opportunity to present a brief slide lecture on their work in conjunction with the exhibition.

MCKNIGHT RESIDENCY
The McKnight Artist Residency for Ceramic Artists program, in its 21st year at NCC, intends to recognize and support ceramic artists whose work demonstrates exceptional artistic merit, who have already proven their abilities, and are at a career stage that is beyond emerging. The program is intended to provide these ceramic artists with an opportunity to be in residence for three months at Northern Clay Center, where they can develop their own work and, at the same time, exchange ideas and knowledge with Minnesota ceramic artists. Up to three, 3-month residencies will be awarded in 2018, to take place during the 2019 calendar year, through a competitive application process. NCC will invite one or two other artists through a nominative process.
Residents must be non-Minnesotan ceramic artists. Each resident artist will receive a $6,000 award (for a three-month residency), studio space provided at no cost, and a glaze and firing allowance. During the residency, each artist will present a public lecture/workshop, for which he or she will receive an additional honorarium. At the culmination of the grant period, recipients will be featured in a catalogue and group exhibition at Northern Clay Center. The exhibition will travel to 3 – 5 sites around the state of Minnesota. Recipients are also required to submit a final report at the end of the grant period.

MCKNIGHT FELLOWSHIP
In its 21st year of programming at Northern Clay Center, the McKnight Artist Fellowship for Ceramic Artists will support outstanding Minnesota ceramic artists who have already proven their abilities and are at a career stage that is beyond emerging. Two $25,000 grants will be awarded in 2018. Fellowship support may be pursued for, but is not limited to: experimenting with new techniques and materials, purchasing materials and equipment, collaborating with other artists, and pursuing education, exhibition, or travel opportunities. The McKnight Fellowship recipients will be featured in a workshop and an exhibition with a corresponding catalogue at the end of their grant year. Applicants must be ceramic artists and Minnesota residents.

WARREN MACkENZIE ADVANCEMENT AWARD
The WMAA, founded in 2014 with Northern Clay Center, provides an opportunity for students and emerging artists to continue their ceramic research and education for a period of up to twelve consecutive months within the grant year, further expanding their professional development. This award is available to current undergraduate or graduate students, recent graduates (within one year), or those who have completed a university-equivalent training in ceramics (including apprenticeships) within the year prior to the application deadline.
During the grant year, the recipients can research a new technique or process, study with a mentor or in an apprenticeship setting, travel to other ceramic art centers or institutions for classes and workshops, collaborate with artists of other media, and travel. Proposals to fund large capital equipment purchases will not be accepted. Between one and three cash awards will be made in 2018, up to $4,000 each, for projects taking place between May 1, 2018, and April 30, 2019. Recipients contribute project updates to Northern Clay Center’s social media and are required to give a public presentation at their school or other institution. The Warren MacKenzie Advancement Award is made possible through the support of generous individual and institutional donors in honor of MacKenzie’s legacy of ceramic education, both traditional and non-traditional.
Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre and Latvian Centre for Contemporary Ceramics invite artists to participate in the 6th International Ceramic Art Symposium CERAMIC LABORATORY.
15 artists (10 international and 5 Latvian) are invited to participate in the Symposium. Within the framework of the CERAMIC LABORATORY, inspired by Latvian nature, cultural space and personal experience, participants will create unique ceramic artworks. The Symposium’s program will be supplemented by lectures and workshops, so we invite artists to propose a lecture and / or workshop while applying for the Symposium. While selecting Symposium participants, preference will be given to those applicants who, along with the creative work, have a lecture and / or workshop proposal.
Aim of the Symposium: To create unique contemporary ceramic artworks, developing an international communication platform in the field of ceramic art.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
To apply for Symposium, applicant has to complete ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM until April 15, 2018.
ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE:
The Symposium Jury will consider the applications, and selected artists will receive invitations to participate in the 6th International Ceramic Art Symposium after May 15, 2018. The invited participants should confirm their participation within 5 days after receiving the invitation.
