Proposals are now being sought to exhibit at Craft Victoria in the first half of 2011. Craft Victoria welcomes proposals for individuals and groups who wish to participate in our exhibition program. Proposals are examined by an advisory panel with diverse expertise. Applicants are encourage to discuss their proposal beforehand with Craft Victoria staff.

From their website: “The idea of an exhibition of boxes is not a new one by any means. It is, however, an important one for the ceramic art collector. It is an opportunity to participate in a collecting tradition that has very deep roots. Ceramic art boxes have been collected and coveted throughout the centuries. From ancient Egypt to modern times the lure of a lidded vessel seems to reach across cultural and geographical boundaries. Their almost seductive nature invites us to question what is concealed, everyday objects, or someone’s most cherished memories. For this exhibition we have invited select artists from across the country to interpret the box form. Each artist will bring to the project his or her own distinct method of surface design and construction. We invite you to consider the possibilities of this timeless art form and what might be contained within. Tanis Saxby apprenticed as a carver and stone sculptor on B.C.’s Saltspring Island before studying ceramics at the Kootenay School of Arts. In 2005, she was awarded the International Residency in Ceramics in Vallauris, France, through a Canada-wide selection. Since returning to Vancouver, she has studied photography at Focal Point Photography School and continues her clay studio practice.
Tanis’ ceramic forms embody tranquility, sensuality, and stillness-in-motion. Shadows play an important role in her creative process, from conception through to the final form and presentation of her works. In FLOW, lines and shadows are further interpreted through the synthesis of her photography and her porcelain work. The effect is a composition of form within form, of interpretation within interpretation.
