Gulf Coast State College Amelia Center Gallery is hosting a juried exhibition that explores the idea of the drinking vessel. The exhibition will focus on the function and concept of the drinking vessel, including its relation to history, politics, craft, technology, utility, and narrative. The exhibition will be a survey of the wide variety of approaches to contemporary ceramics through the lens of the most intimate and accessible vessel, the cup.
Juror
Linda Arbuckle is a professor at the University of Florida, Gainesville. Her work in majolica-glazed earthenware has been recognized through an Artists’ Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as a Florida Individual Artists’ Fellowship. Artist-in-residence positions in Wales and the People’s Republic of China have provided further balance of Eastern and Western resources in her works.
Eligibility
The exhibition is open to both functional and sculptural work that addresses the idea of “the cup”. Please submit only original work that has been completed in the last three (3) years. Amelia Center Gallery reserves the right to reject any work that is not suitably prepared for exhibition or that differs from the original submission.

ENTRY DEADLINE: Friday, November 4th, 2011 (midnight MDT) To be “On the Edge” is to be balancing yet changing, openly vulnerable and possibly ephemeral, about to plunge into a place that is undefined, unconventional and unexpected. “On the Edge” can be applied to virtually anything, from an impeding natural force to a chemical process, to a human emotion, memory, or condition. The dynamic and ever-changing landscape of the Pacific Northwest is a geographical manifestation of this concept and is at its most vigorous along the shores of Seattle and the Puget Sound-the site of NCECA’s 2012 Conference. “On the Edge” can also easily be applied to the medium of clay. Of all the materials that artists reach for, it can be argued that clay holds the most fundamental potential: able to immediately respond to the force of a touch, constantly changing and moving on to the next edge of expression. For the 2012 Projects Space in Seattle, artists are invited to consider the possibilities that lie within the medium of clay and submit works that consider the concept of “On the Edge.” Now in it’s third year, NCECA’s Projects Space is a platform for ceramic artists to present works that embrace the medium not as an end, but as a means of embracing the material as a physical metaphor, allowing it to communicate beyond the expected. Jurors Linda Ganstrom, Marianne McGrath, and Jeffry Mitchell are looking for submissions that not only actively embrace the concept of “On the Edge” using the medium of clay as a central focus, but also engage their materials, processes, and audience in unique and unconventional ways. Artists should keep in mind that the Projects Space Exhibition lies in the Central Hall at the heart of the NCECA Conference, and works are meant to grow and change throughout the duration of the conference. Five juried and invited artists will be assigned a 10’ x 19’ raw space in the Central Hall of the Seattle Convention Center to create their works during the week of the 2012 NCECA Conference. Artists will have from 9am to 4:30pm Tuesday, March 27th to install their materials and begin their piece. The artists will be featured guests at a reception Tuesday evening. Artists will continue to interact with their materials and piece throughout the conference ending Friday, March 30th at 5pm. Artists will de-install and clean their spaces from 5-9pm that evening.

About the Exhibition:
Currents: Influenced by Place, is a national (USA) juried exhibition that highlights our personal connection to clay through place. Whether it is our current location, where we came from or where we anticipate going, physically and mentally, our sense of place affects us as artists. Sponsored by H.O.T. Clay, and organized by its members, the exhibition will take place at the Focus Gallery, at the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida.
Eligibility:
The show is open to anyone nationwide 18 years of age or older. Submitted work should be at least 60 percent clay and must have been completed within the last 2 years.
Dates and Location:
The opening reception will take place Friday, December 2nd from 7pm to 9pm at the Focus Gallery at the University of Florida. All accepted works must be shipped and returned at the cost to the artist. If your work is accepted, please deliver it with a return shipping form that has been paid for in advance. All works that do not include return shipping will be considered a generous donation to the H.O.T. Clay Club.
Entry Procedures:
Submission in digital format via CD is required. Each CD should contain your entry images (jpeg 1200×900 at 300 dpi) as well as a brief artist’s statement, resume, and completed entry form in PDF Format. Up to three entries with one detail image per entry may be submitted. Works that differ from submitted images beyond acceptable parameters will not be shown. Images should be labeled as such: LastnameFirstnameEntrynumber.jpg. Please add “detail” when necessary.
Application Information:
There is a non-refundable entry fee of $25 per artist, with a maximum of 3 works per individual. Please make checks payable to University of Florida.

A.I.R. Vallauris: Artists in Residence, Vallauris France www.air-vallauris.org Located in the heart of the old town of Vallauris, on the French Riviera, the association A.I.R. Vallauris (Artists in Residence) welcomes international artists from all horizons to meet and collaborate with local artists and to research and create new work in an artistic laboratory created specifically for them. The Association has four primary objectives:
To host resident international artists
To support contemporary creation
to provide eduation in the field of Ceramic Arts
to organize cultural events Created in October 2001, the Association A.I.R. Vallauris, since April 2002, welcomes several artists at a given time in its residence and studios available to the artists. There are several different residency periods to choose from, and the durations vary. The creators using different mediums benefit from an equipped studio, independent furnished bedrooms and a gallery where their works are presented at the end of the residency period. The quality of the artistic creation is one of the major concerns or the program; the selection committee evaluates applicants based on their artistic experience, merit and project proposal. Since April 2002, over 130 creators of 30 different nationalities have taken part in the program. The Association encourages and facilitates interaction between local artists and international artists. Workshops, conferences, demonstrations exhibitions are organized with the resident artists. These events are open to the public. Through partnerships with the local School of Fine Arts, the local government, and international organizations a sensibility of exchange between the public, artists, and international is realized. Deadline: 31 October, 2011 ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF INTERNATIONAL TRIENNlAL OF CERAMICS UNICUM 2012 within ZDSLU (Association of the Slovene Fine Arts Societies) and in cooperation with European Cultural and Technological Centre (EKTC) Maribor is setting up II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012 and parallel events all over Slovenia. The emphasis is on popularization as well as presentation of contemporary ceramics as an independent area in the field of artistic creation. Triennial is connection between international and Slovene space and it gives fresh insight into artistic ceramics. Its intention is to search through elementary artistic research in connection with contemporary though; the character of contemporaneity is given by individualism, development of personal artistic language and enriched by traditional influences of old technologies. II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012 contains competitive part and accompanying events and exhibitions. COMPETITION RULES
Call for applications is international and public.
Any individual artist or group of artists who work in this media (ceramics) may participate in the II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012.
Members of the organizing committee, international jury and invited authors are not allowed to take part in the competitive part of triennial.
Each participant is allowed to submit up to three entries among which the international jury will make the selection.
Artworks without any ceramic techniques, technologies or approaches will be rejected. Ceramic artworks can include other materials which must not predominate.
By applying the artist assures that each ceramic artwork was created within last three years.
