Call for entry – Sunshine Coast Art Prize


The Noosa Regional Gallery , Sunshine Coast Art Prize 3D (SCAP 3D) is presented by the Friends Noosa Regional Gallery Inc. The non- acquisitive Art Prize includes $15,000 + a four-weeks arts residency on the Sunshine Coast valued at $5,000. A non-acquisitive Highly Commended Prize of $2,500 will also be announced at the launch. A non-acquisitive People’s Choice Prize to the value of $2,500 will be announced 1 week prior conclusion of the exhibition. Artists will be selected from entries submitted to the Pre-selection Panel. Works will be selected from photographs submitted with the entry. Any Australian Citizen working in Australia in any 3D medium may enter. The Pre-selection Panel will invite up to 40 artists to exhibit one work in the SCAP 3D exhibition. The Judge will select the winner and highly commended artist from the 40 finalists.Applications need to be received by 31 March 2012.

Call for artists: Sidney Myer Fund Australian Ceramic Award


Closing date: 1 February 2012

Entries for the 2012 Sidney Myer Fund Australian Ceramic Award (SMFACA) can only be submitted online via our Online Entry Form. With $55,000 in prize money, the SMFACA cements its place as the premier Australian / International acquisitive ceramic art award. Three artists will be shortlisted in each category; Australian, International and Emerging Australian. One recipient artist will be chosen from the shortlisted artists in each category and receive a significant stipend to produce a body of work for exhibition on the understanding that the gallery will select part of the work for its collection. There will be six months between the announcement of award recipients and the delivery of works to the gallery.

Art Gallery of St. Albert Call for 2013

Art Gallery of St. Albert (AGSA), a contemporary public art gallery, seeks proposals from artists working in all styles and mediums for exhibition in the 2013 calendar year. The Gallery’s mandate is to provide enriching educational experiences that celebrate visual culture and artistic achievement through research, exhibition and interpretation. The Gallery strives to provide an exhibition schedule and corresponding public programs that both support educationally challenging art and appeal to its many audiences. Artworks need to provide vision, inspiration and education for residents of St. Albert and surrounding communities. The exhibition selection reflects originality and a diversity of styles and mediums. The Gallery presents artists who exhibit locally, nationally and internationally. Kirkland Arts Center, call for entries: Clay? IV Exhibition

Submissions open to all clay-predicated artwork. Kirkland Arts Center is proud to present the fourth installment of its biennial contemporary ceramics exhibition, Clay? IV.

Juried by University of Washington, School of Art Professors Doug Jeck, Jamie Walker, and Akio Takamori, Clay? IV explores the multifariousness of clay as a medium of expression. Showcasing a range of sizes, scales, subject matter, and techniques, the artwork of this exhibition is both a testament to the enduring legacy of clay and to the future of the field.

No submission fee!

Kirkland Arts Center provides insurance for all artwork while exhibited at the KAC Gallery, but does not cover shipping costs or shipping insurance. Artwork must be distributed to KAC by the artist or through a mail carrier such as FedEx or DHL. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the artist.

Call for submissions: delecTABLE: The Fine Art of Dining

Application deadline: Jan 7, 2012

Juried show dedicated to enhancing the presentation and exhibit of functional ceramics, focusing on the fine art of dining, including place settings, serving vessels and platters, and dinner table décor. Proceeds from the sale of work and associated fundraising dinner events that will showcase the work, in conjunction with table design and food by local designers and chefs, will benefit the Art Students League of Denver and its ceramics program.

ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES
• Open to residents of the 50 United States and Washington DC. $30 nonrefundable entry fee. You must submit five (5) images for consideration, which may include one full and one detail image of each piece of artwork.
• Enter up to five functional pieces that would be included at a dinner table, i.e. place settings, serving vessels and platters, functional sets, or dinner table décor (vases, candle holders, etc.) Please note your number #1 image submitted may be used for publicity purposes.
• Work submitted must be innovative and original in design and must be a personal expression of the artist’s intent.
• Work submitted through the application process may be exemplary of work to be exhibited in the show (i.e., it must represent the same making, glazing and firing techniques). The Juror will select work on this basis; actual works sent for exhibit can differ from slides as long as they represent the style and quality of work submitted in the application.
• Works must be made entirely out of ceramic materials (exceptions are limited to handles or knobs made out of cane, wood, etc.), that are an integral part of the piece.
• Work submitted for review must have been completed by the artist within the past three (3) years.
• Size restrictions: each piece or set not exceed 30 inches in any dimension or 20 pounds in weight. If accepted, the artist may be requested to send more than one piece for the exhibit, e.g. a place setting(s) and/or one or two serving piece(s)/set(s).
• Accepted work which displays poor craftsmanship or does not represent the style submitted as digital entry images will be withdrawn from the exhibit.
• Ceramic artwork must be available for sale. The League will retain a 40% commission on works sold.

JUROR: Nick Joerling

JUROR BIO: Joerling is a full-time studio potter who has maintained a studio in Penland, North Carolina since the mid-1980’s. He received a B.A. in History from the University of Dayton, Ohio, and an M.F.A. in Ceramics from Louisiana State University in 1986. He has taught in craft programs in the United States and abroad, been widely reviewed and exhibited, and is represented in public and private collections.

Nick Joerling Artist Statement:
I make pots as much from a drawing sensibility as a pottery one. Daydreaming with a pencil. Not drawing as rendering but simply doodling, then working hard to get that drawing to function. Profile is therefore a strong attraction, a strong dictate, as are the smaller spaces within spaces. And of course that sense of animation. My pot reference is most often you and I, our bodies. It’s where my cues come from: dance, people seated on a park bench, the cleavage that forms on the inside of a bent elbow. But I want to stay in the pot’s world — if the reference is too literal the pots seem deflated. In my studio what I hope for are pots that have qualities of sensuality, compassion, humor, and risk.

ABOUT ART STUDENTS LEAGUE OF DENVER
Founded in 1987, the Art Students League was established as a reaction to the prevalence of contemporary trends in art, i.e., conceptual and abstract expressionists’ art, being taught in universities and colleges in the 1980s. The League is a non-accredited and nonprofit fine art school with a philosophy of teaching based on a master/apprentice” Ateliers method.

Today it has evolved into a vital and unique resource, offering an expansive range of art classes in a wide variety of genre and media that include conceptual, abstract, modernism, as well as retaining classical approaches. Students of all abilities and ages are taught by approximately ninety professional artists and art educators. Beyond being a school, it offers opportunities to exhibit and sell art – and most importantly – is a supportive community in which artists thrive and cultivate an appreciation for art with like-minded people.

In 2001, the League established a ceramics program with nationally recognized ceramic artists serving as faculty. It has grown to nine distinguished ceramic faculty and to over 1,000 students a year, offering children and adult beginning through advanced/professional classes. In addition to on-going classes and workshops, during the summer, the ceramics department offers a number of clay camps for children.

To promote and support the ceramics program, the League has held three world-class invitational exhibitions. It offers an annual ceramics workshop and presents well-known ceramic artists as visiting artists.

Freight & Insurance
The artist is responsible for freight and insurance on the work to and from Art Students League of Denver. ASLD is responsible for insurance during the exhibition. When you ship your piece for the exhibit, you must also include a pre-paid UPS or FedEx return shipping label or a separate personal check payable to ASLD for the return shipping of your piece(s). If your work is sold, the check for return shipping costs will be mailed back to you. If no payment is enclosed, this will result in delayed return shipping. Pieces not sold during the exhibit will be returned in their original packaging. Local artists may arrange to hand-deliver accepted work.

Sales and Insurance
The League will retain 40% commission of the sales price. All work must be available for sale and insurance will be set at 60% of sale value. All work will be insured while at the league. ASLD will not be responsible for loss or damage to work in transit to or from the League. All accepted work that is not sold during the exhibit must either be picked up or will be shipped back to the artist within 30 days of the exhibit. If art does not require shipping and will be picked up, ASLD will not be responsible for loss, theft or damaged work after 14 days of the last day of the show.

Marketing
Produced by the Art Students League, the exhibit will be marketed through www.ASLD.org website and course catalog, event postcards, and local print media. This exhibit and the associated delecTABLE fundraising event for the League and its ceramic program will feature the work of 30-40 national artists.

ASLD reserves the right to photograph entries for purposes of publicity, documentation, education and promotion.
