The Art Department at Wesleyan College, in Macon, Georgia, is seeking a ceramic or printmaking artist for a 3-month fall semester residency from September thru November 2018. The residency is open to emerging and established artists who intend to pursue or create a body of work or special project. A minimum of a BA or BFA in Art should be completed prior to the start of the residency.
The Artist is expected to work within our campus in the spirit of building community. This includes student interaction, visibility as a studio artist mentor, attending our Art Department events, participating in student critiques, giving a public lecture, and exhibiting a body of work in one of our campus venues. The artist will give two workshops as part of the residency.
The Artist can expect to have a set-aside studio space within our spacious studio facilities; however, the studio space will be open to promote student interaction.
Wesleyan College offers:
• Furnished housing on campus during the duration of the residency (no pets)
• Studio space with campus Internet access
• A $500 monthly stipend September-November
• A campus meal plan providing 3 meals a day for the resident artist
• Access to the Matthews Athletic center
• Access to the school library
• Access to the 100 acre campus arboretum
FACILITIES:
(3-D AREA) one electric kiln (12 cubic feet), one Bailey Gas car kiln (32 cubic feet), one large gas car kiln (93 cubic feet), dry materials lab, pugmill, 1 electric wheel, 10 kick wheels, 2 large slab rollers, Northstar extruder, mig and stick welder, wood and metal chop saw, table saw, band saw, small 3-D printer (in Library), and small metals vacuum casting equipment with burnout furnace.

1. A brief proposal (no longer than two pages) outlining the project/scope of work. The proposal should reflect an awareness of our expectations that the artist will work independently while interacting with our faculty and students to enhance our learning environment. The proposal should represent the practicality of the artist’s project (concept, media and technique) as it relates to our available facilities and equipment.
2. 10 images with image description (title, medium, date)
3. Current resume
4. 3 Professional references with email and phone number

“About Face” with artists Wesley Anderegg and Ryan Myers opens at In Tandem Gallery this April.
“Both artists focus on figurative elements; Wesley’s folk / naive-like people and dogs are sculptural with an edge to them (kind of awkward, a bit creepy and scary, but wonderfully created and memorable) while Ryan’s work is functional but decorated with fairly detailed and realistic surfaces (lifelike enough to straddle the line between functional and sculptural with a definite Latin American look to them).”

“Spring Break Clay Talks” on Tuesday April 3rd starting at 12pm EST.
There will be DUAL-live cast on Instagram with each of these talented artists throughout the day on @Kowalskipottery Each artist will demo, speak on a clay topic and share all their secrets

The Artist in Residence Program through the Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard, offers dedicated artists the opportunity to involve themselves in research and growth, pushing their art in new directions in a dynamic, urban studio connected to the Harvard community. Individuals will have the opportunity to build relevant skills in research, professional development, technical ability, creative problem solving, teaching and community involvement through our Artist in Residence Program.
The Artist in Residence Program offers:
Personal studio space (60 sq. ft.) in addition to use of common studio space
7 day studio access
Free access to materials – clay, glaze and use of kilns (electric, saggar, wood fire, soda and gas) up to excess
Opportunities to take classes and firing workshops within the program
Paid teaching opportunities within the program for both community and academic based classes.
Solo exhibition in Gallery 224 of work completed during residency
Attend visiting artist workshops and symposium offered within the program
Exhibition/sales opportunities in two annual Show and Sales
Access to studio equipment including slab roller, extruder, spray booth, plaster mold-making room and glaze mixing area
Access to studio lighting and background material for documenting work
Website visibility
Access to Harvard University Library and Museums with provided ID
Opportunities for participation in academic collaborations with the Harvard community
Expectations of Artist in Residence:
One year commitment
Must spend 20 hours/week of time dedicated to personal work
Must spend 5 hours/week dedicated to work within the program
One public workshop presentation
Provide presentations to classes
Participation in program events and special projects with the Harvard Community
Artist is asked to leave one work for the permanent collection
Responsible for own housing
