In Kathryn’s words: I make my pots with the intention that each piece should be used
and embraced in everyday life. My wheel-thrown pots are simple and
contemporary, whilst the illustrations are delicate, colourful and
inspired by the beauty (and oddity) of my island home. 

Silverdale
I
grew up on the Isle of Man, a small windswept and rain-soaked island in
the middle of the Irish Sea. I spent my childhood running around
Silverdale Glen, a secluded valley in the south of the island. It was
owned by my Grandfather between the 1930’s and 1960’s, so there is a lot
of family history in the area for me. In and around the glen is an old
corn mill, a mineral water factory, playground and water-driven
carousel, all of which appear in my illustrations.
 
 
Sweden
After
making friends with a Swedish artist in Australia, I visited Sweden for
her wedding in 2013. I fell in love with the country. I had been trying
to draw horses to represent the Silverdale carousel for years but
hadn’t been happy with the results. The Dalahäst have become the perfect
emblem for me.
 

Clarice Cliff

Clarice’s
designs were wild, bold and adventurous. She was SO far ahead of her
time and must have been a strong-minded woman to progress so far in what
was a man’s world. The iconic little worlds that she can create rather
enchant me.

call for artists: 2016 National Student Juried Exhibition NCECA

Clay students in undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate programs throughout the U.S. —
NCECA is turning 50… The future is here and YOU are it!

APPLY NOW for the 2016 NCECA National Student Juried Exhibition (NSJE), a cornerstone event of Makers, Mentors and Milestones, NCECA’s 50th annual conference. Submission deadline is September 23, 2015. Applications close at 11:59 PM Mountain Time Zone (Denver, CO, USA).

The exhibition, juried by Liz Quackenbush and Lee Somers, takes place at the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center, March 4 – April 30, 2016 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Works involving clay as their primary material including those
incorporating other media will be considered. FULL details about NSJE

The call is open to full-time students (as defined by their home
institution) enrolled in the United States of America. Students enrolled
at institutions on which the jurors currently serve as faculty are not
eligible to apply.  Applicants must be working towards a degree or be a
post-baccalaureate in art at the time of submittal. Student Members of NCECA will receive a 50% discount on exhibition submission fee.

call for entry: Beyond the Brickyard

We are pleased to be holding our eighth annual international call for entries, Beyond the Brickyard.
The selected works will be exhibited at the Archie Bray Foundation in
January 2016. This year’s exhibition will be juried by 2015 visiting
artist Peter Beasecker.

All submissions to Beyond the Brickyard will only be accepted online.

Submissions must be received online by September 15, 2015, midnight  MST.

Entry Fee
The cost of entering Beyond the Brickyard is $35 USD for up to 3 works. All major credit cards are accepted.

Awards
From the successful entrants, three awards will be selected:
Juror’s Choice Award: $400
Director’s Choice Award: $400
People’s Choice Award: $100

Sales Commission
Artists will receive 55% commission of their work sold during exhibition, while ABF will retain 45%.

Exhibition Schedule
By applying all applicants agree to the following schedule if selected to exhibit:

► Applications due September 15, 2015
► Entrants notified of jury results by email no later than October 31, 2015
► Work to be received by Archie Bray Foundation by November 18, 2015
► Work exhibited in Beyond the Brickyard,
January–March 2016
