Applications for residencies are accepted between
November and March and are reviewed once a year. To be considered,
applications for short-term or year-long residencies must be received at
the Bray no later than
March 1, 2016.
Applying:
All applications for the 2016–2017 Bray artist in
residence program year will be accepted online. By following the link at
the bottom of this page you will be taken to Slideroom.com which will
allow you to register and upload your images.
Residency Options:
- Long-term Residency with Fellowship beginning in the fall of 2016 (1–2 years)

When applying please submit the following information:
- Preferred residency choices with preferred start and end dates.
- Educational history
- Résumé
- A brief artist’s statement.
- Letter of intent stating your artistic goals and interests in the Bray’s residency program.
- Contact information of 3 people who can speak to your qualifications as a potential
resident. List the name, affiliation, phone number, and
email address. Reference letters will not be accepted.
- 20 digital images of your recent
work submitted as jpgs with title of the piece, year made, materials and dimensions.
**For good image quality and a fast upload, your
image files must be sized around 1800 x 1800 pixels at 72 dpi
(approximately 6″ x 6″ at 300 dpi). Please do not submit images smaller
than this requirement.

The Saint John’s Pottery Jerome Foundation Emerging Artist Program
is a studio residency for artists to experience a community-centered
approach to ceramic art using local clay and natural materials. Eligible
individuals include emerging visual artists of any
discipline (ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, painting, etc.) from
Minnesota or New York City.
Founded in 1979 by Artist-in-Residence Richard Bresnahan, The Saint
John’s Pottery demonstrates a commitment to the integration of art and
life, the preservation of the environment, and the celebration of
diverse cultures. The studio is located at Saint John’s University in
central Minnesota.
The Jerome Foundation
has supported emerging artists for 50 years. Created by artist and
philanthropist Jerome Hill, the foundation supports the creation of new
works by emerging artists. The term emerging artist refers to artistic
development, professional accomplishment, and recognition. The program
supports artists who are the principal creators of new work, and:
- Who take risks and embrace challenges;
- Whose developing voices reveal significant potential;
- Who are rigorous in their approach to creation and production;
- Who have evidence of professional achievement but not a substantial record of accomplishment; and
- Who are not recognized as established artists by other artists, curators, producers, critics, and arts administrators.
Two award recipients are selected each year via jury to participate
in residencies at The Saint John’s Pottery during the month of June.
Participants are provided studio space, clay, access to technical
assistance, an award of $3,600, and room and board. Works are later
fired in the Johanna Kiln, the largest wood-firing kiln in North America.
Application Deadline: February 12th, 2016
To apply, provide a CD with the following files in .pdf, .jpg, .doc,
or .docx format: 10 images; an image list document; an artist resume
with exhibition history; and a 1-page statement of rationale describing
why the residency will benefit the applicant. Label each image file with
only a number (01.jpg, 02.jpg) and note the number, title, year, medium
and dimensions of each work in the image list.

recipients will be notified in March for each June residency.
Submissions will not be returned.
Although age is not a factor in determining an emerging artist,
artists currently in BFA or MFA programs should finish all academic

August 5-20, 2016, Daugavpils
Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre and Daugavpils Clay Art Centre invite artists to participate in the 4th International Ceramic Art Symposium “CERAMIC LABORATORY” organized in the framework of Rothko Centre’s Residence Program.
Within the framework of the “CERAMIC LABORATORY”, inspired by Latvian
nature, cultural space and personal experiences, participants are
invited to create unique works of ceramic art using their selected
material and equipment, at the same time adhering to a unifying theme,
which is associated with experimenting. Symposium implies a joint
development of a kind of laboratory where artists can experiment and
share their experiences. Through the selection of participants of the
Symposium, the advantage will be given to artists who will hold a master
class and / or an open lecture on ceramics or ceramic technology, which
will later be published in the following catalogue of the symposium.
Aim of the symposium: To create unique contemporary ceramic artworks, developing an international communication platform in the field of ceramic art.
Place and time of the symposium: Daugavpils, Latvia, August 5-20, 2016
Participants of the symposium: 15 professional artists will
take part in the symposium. The selection of participants will be
competition-based, taking into consideration the submitted materials
(application form, CV, and visual information which satisfies the below
mentioned requirements).

- Covering of the residence expenses in Daugavpils (catering, accommodation);
- Studios;
- Basic materials and tools for work;
- Publicity opportunities (possibilities to present artists’ creative works; information in mass media; a symposium catalogue);
- Recreation, tours around the city and surroundings, visits of art and culture institutions of Daugavpils);
- Symposium’s opening exhibition;
- Final symposium exhibition.
Artists provide:
- Covering of the travel expenses to Daugavpils and back;
- Specific materials and tools for work;
- Donation of an artwork from the opening exhibition to Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre;
- Donation of at least two artworks created during the symposium to Daugavpils Clay Art Centre.

- Presentation materials on artistic activity: portfolio (at least 7
images of artworks created during previous 3 years). Other informative
materials in electronic format can be attached (catalogues, postcards

Assessment procedure:
The symposium organizers will consider applications and send invitations to the 4th International Ceramic Art Symposium till March 15, 2016.
Applications submitted after March 7, 2016 will not be assessed.
Confirmation of participation:
The invited participants confirm their participation within 5 days after receiving the invitation, but no later than March 20, 2016

limits by making massive walls and muscular abstractions, McIntosh
gently nudged the boundaries of traditional studio pottery by elevating
functional objects to a rarefied state of art. Over the next 50 years,
he produced an internationally revered body of work that exemplifies a
classical vein of the postwar crafts movement.”
