My apologies if emails have gone without reply, if posts have been late in coming, or I’ve dropped the ball lately here on the blog. I have good reason as we are finally moving to our new home this weekend. It’s an understatement to say that it’s been a hectic few months, but soon all will quiet down again. I thank you for your patience and understanding at times when my life gets in the way : )
If you look really closely you’ll see my kiln amongst the mess of my packed up studio. Everything is packed and ready to go, but I just had to get one last firing in. Silly artists, we never sleep!

OLD FORGE — View, an arts center in the
Adirondacks, is seeking entries to “Earth” a juried ceramics exhibition
to be displayed in the Henry Kashiwa Eco Gallery from Oct. 6 to Dec. 12.
Entries will be selected for
the exhibition and juried by Eric Serritella. The last day to submit an
entry is Aug. 25. The winner of Best in Show will be invited to have an
exhibition of their work at View.

The Juror Eric Serritella, is a nationally exhibiting
ceramic artist specializing in handcarved trompe l’oeil vessels
transformed into birch and weathered logs. Serritella’s one-of-a-kind
ceramic sculptures have been awarded and exhibited in galleries and
museums from coast to coast and in Asia. His work is included in
permanent museum collections, including Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum and
The Everson Museum of Art’s world class ceramics collection in
Syracuse.
This exhibit is open to all living artists working in
ceramics. Work must be original, completed within the past five years
and not have been exhibited previously at View.
Artists may submit up to three different works for
consideration with an entry fee of $40 ($30 for arts center members).
Wall pieces may not exceed 36 inches in any dimension, and may not weigh
more than 30 lbs.

Summary:
This
is a leadership position responsible for exhibiting, organizing,
managing, evaluating, and researching the Historic Clay District’s
extensive artefact collections, which include, but are not limited to,
historic pottery, industrial equipment and contemporary ceramics. The
Exhibits and Programme Coordinator will oversee the conservation and
preservation of current inventory, as well as the acquisition of
additional artefacts, appropriate to the goals of the District. The
Exhibits and Programme coordinator will be responsible for developing
programs directly related to the public interaction with both the
collection and the museum in general. Additionally the coordinator will
work with the Education Coordinator, specifically to ensure that the
best use is made of all museum resources.

Garth Clark and Mark Del Vecchio are life and business partners
celebrating 33 years together and are considered the leading experts on
modern ceramics today. They founded the Garth Clark Gallery in Los
Angeles in 1981, and added New York in 1983. The gallery soon became the
leading space internationally for modern and contemporary ceramic art,
presenting over six hundred exhibitions. Together they also ran the
non-profit group Ceramic Arts Foundation that has published books,
organized exhibitions and held eight major international conferences of
ceramic art and criticism in Syracuse, Kansas City, London and
Amsterdam. The duo has received numerous awards from the Museum of Arts
and Design, New York, the Kansas City Art Institute and other
institutions. Clark, the author of over sixty books, was made a Fellow
of the Royal College of Art and also was the winner of 2005 Mather Award
for Distinguished Art Journalism from the College Art Association.
As gallerists, scholars, authors, and collectors, Garth Clark and
Mark Del Vecchio have helped shape the field of ceramics by expanding
notions of the medium’s possibilities. Their esteemed collection of
ceramics was given to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 2007, and is
the subject of a 500-page comprehensive catalogue published this year by
Yale University Press. Clark has just competed two new books, Mind Mud: Ai Weiwei’s Conceptual Ceramics and Lucio Fontana Ceramics.
