A juried Group Show with Grand Prize for two artists: a Show at Atlantic Gallery in NYC’s Chelsea art district.
“GeoLogic” is the theme for this exhibition of clay-based work at Atlantic Gallery in New York’s bustling Chelsea district. Selected works will explore aesthetic, narrative, political, structural, or personal points of view related to the exhibition title. Potters and sculptors whose work explores issues regarding Geology, Geometry, Geography, Geohumanism, Geomorphology, and/or all things Earth related are strongly encouraged to apply. Visual artists who express ideas through functional or sculptural modes are invited to submit work. Works intended for the wall, ie; tileworks, mosaics and installations are also encouraged. Multimedia works which are at least 80% ceramic are welcomed. Open to all US artists 18 and over. The juror, Bruce Dehnert, will award two artists a grand prize of a week-long show at Atlantic Gallery. A printed full-color catalog will be provided to each accepted artist. Canadian ceramic artist Greg Payce joins Professor Paul Greenhalgh and Dr Claudia Milburn.
Greg Payce lives in Calgary, Alberta, and was Professor of ceramic at ACAD for decades, before stepping back to concentrate purely on his work. Through the decades he has developed a superb form of trompe l’oeil that is entirely his own, in which thrown vessels, sometimes in pairs, sometimes in rows, appear to have standing figures between them. In his work, people fill the voids. Greg’s work is currently on show in the Long Gallery at Messums Wiltshire.
Paul Greenhalgh is Director of the Zaha Hadid Foundation, and Professor Emeritus of Art History at UEA (UK). Previous roles include Director of the Sainsbury Centre (UK), President and Director Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington DC), Head of Research, V&A Museum. He is academically a specialist in Modern art, design and architecture, and he has always maintained an interest in the ceramic arts, and on the history and theory of museums and exhibitions. He has curated many exhibitions and lectured all over the world.
Claudia joined the team at Messums Wiltshire in 2021, having previously worked in museums and galleries for over a decade. Claudia was Head of Exhibitions and Collections at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester and Curator at the Sainsbury Centre in Norwich. She holds a Masters in Drawing from Norwich University of the Arts and a Bachelors in English and American Literature from the University of East Anglia, where she also completed her doctorate in Art History.

Assistant/Associate Professor, Tenure Track Position: Ceramic Sculpture
The School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University is seeking candidates for a tenure track faculty position in the Division of Ceramic Art at the rank of assistant or associate professor with an emphasis in ceramic sculpture.
The Division of Ceramic Art seeks a dynamic artist who will participate in shaping the future of ceramic art at Alfred. The successful candidate will have an active exhibition record and established recognition in the field; three years teaching experience or equivalent is preferred; salary will be commensurate with experience. We are seeking applicants engaged in ceramic sculpture, sculpture and/or installation, who’s practice may intersect with one or any combination of genres; design, performance, architecture, figuration etc. While the applicant’s relationship to material specificity or plurality may be open and variable, interested candidates should be ambitious makers actively immersed in ceramic methodologies with an ability to speak to contemporary practice across media. A strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education is expected. We invite applicants from across the globe.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include an M.F.A. in studio art or design or its equivalent, an active professional creative practice including a record of exhibitions and projects beyond the local and regional level. Three years previous college-level teaching experience or equivalent is preferred.
The Division of Ceramic Art, within the School of Art and Design at Alfred University, has a distinguished history as a premier institution for education in the arts and fosters a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary environment for research and practice.
