Emmanuel College Summer Artist Residency in Ceramics with stipend, Massachusetts

Emmanuel College, located in Boston, Massachusetts, is now accepting applications for the 2011 Summer Artist Residency Program. Approximate date of residency – mid. June to mid. August. Please apply to one of the following categories: Ceramics, Photography, Printmaking, or Social Justice (any media related in some way to issues of social justice.) Up to a $2000 stipend is provided for all travel and residency costs.
Artists have 24-hour access to studios and are provided with on campus living quarters and a small, shared kitchen. Artists are responsible for their meals. All artists are required to donate one piece of artwork to the college’s art collection at the end of the residency.

Resident artists will participate in Contemporary Art and Artistic Practice, an art history course offered to students during the summer residency. Artists will be required to devote three hours of a mutually agreed upon time to discussions about their own artistic practice with students enrolled in this course. The course focuses on the theories and methodologies that inform current contemporary art trends as they relate to the four Emmanuel College artists in residence.

Also, all artists are required give an on campus demo/lecture of their work to Emmanuel students during the 2011-2012 academic year. The date will be coordinated with the faculty member in each area. Artists are responsible for their travel and lodging during this visit.

A visa is required for international artists. Emmanuel College will support a J1 visa for international artists.

Call for applications – Archie Bray Fellowship and Resident applications

The 2011-2012 Fellowship and Resident Applications
Applications for residencies are accepted throughout the year and are reviewed once a year. To be considered, applications for short-term or year-long residencies must be received at the Bray no later than March 1, 2011. (The deadline to apply for a fellowship is also March 1.) All applications for the 2011-2012 Archie Bray Artist in Resident program will be accepted online. By following the link at the bottom of this page you will be taken to Slideroom.com which will allow you to register and upload your images. 2011 Residency Options:

  1. Full-time Resident with/without Fellowship (1-2 years)
    ** To apply for a fellowship please include a letter of intent and check the appropriate box on our application form
  2. Short-term Summer Resident between July and October (2-4 months)
    **In 2011 the summer residency program will be shortened by one month due to the Bray’s 60th anniversary celebration in June. Accepted residents can begin their residency in early July.
  3. Short-term Resident between October and June (1-3 months)

When applying please submit the following information:

  1. Application form
  2. 20 digital images of your recent work submitted as jpgs. For good image quality and a fast upload, your image files should be sized no larger than 1800 x 1800 pixels at 72 dpi (approximately 6″ x 6″ at 300 dpi)
  3. Image list including title of piece, year made, materials, dimensions
  4. A brief artist’s statement
  5. Résumé
  6. Contact information of 3 people who can speak to your qualifications as a potential resident. List the name, affiliation, phone number, and email address. Reference letters will not be accepted.
  7. Letter of intent if applying for a Fellowship.
  8. $35 USD non refundable application fee.

Medalta – Upcoming Deadline + Artist talks

December 1st is the next deadline to apply for the Medalta AIR program.

On Thursday, November 18 (7:00pm), three visiting artists to Medalta’s Artists in Residence program will be giving presentations on their work at Medalta’s Shaw Centre.

Rachael Kroeker is a Manitoba-based artist who is wrapping up her very successful four-month residency.

Koi Neng Liew is in the first stages of a twelve month residency, as is Xanthe Isbister.
