The Saint John’s Pottery Jerome Foundation Emerging Artist Program
is a studio residency for artists to experience a community-centered
approach to ceramic art using local clay and natural materials. Eligible
individuals include emerging visual artists of any
discipline (ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, painting, etc.) from
Minnesota or New York City.
Founded in 1979 by Artist-in-Residence Richard Bresnahan, The Saint
John’s Pottery demonstrates a commitment to the integration of art and
life, the preservation of the environment, and the celebration of
diverse cultures. The studio is located at Saint John’s University in
central Minnesota.
The Jerome Foundation
has supported emerging artists for 50 years. Created by artist and
philanthropist Jerome Hill, the foundation supports the creation of new
works by emerging artists. The term emerging artist refers to artistic
development, professional accomplishment, and recognition. The program
supports artists who are the principal creators of new work, and:
- Who take risks and embrace challenges;
- Whose developing voices reveal significant potential;
- Who are rigorous in their approach to creation and production;
- Who have evidence of professional achievement but not a substantial record of accomplishment; and
- Who are not recognized as established artists by other artists, curators, producers, critics, and arts administrators.
Two award recipients are selected each year via jury to participate
in residencies at The Saint John’s Pottery during the month of June.
Participants are provided studio space, clay, access to technical
assistance, an award of $3,600, and room and board. Works are later
fired in the Johanna Kiln, the largest wood-firing kiln in North America.
Application Deadline: February 12th, 2016
To apply, provide a CD with the following files in .pdf, .jpg, .doc,
or .docx format: 10 images; an image list document; an artist resume
with exhibition history; and a 1-page statement of rationale describing
why the residency will benefit the applicant. Label each image file with
only a number (01.jpg, 02.jpg) and note the number, title, year, medium
and dimensions of each work in the image list.

recipients will be notified in March for each June residency.
Submissions will not be returned.
Although age is not a factor in determining an emerging artist,
artists currently in BFA or MFA programs should finish all academic

The
Byrdcliffe Artist in Residence program provides artists of exceptional
talent with uninterrupted time and creative space to research and create
new work. Lasting four weeks (or a possible eight weeks for ceramic
artists), residencies provide artists with private studio space within a
community of peers and the serene natural setting of the Byrdcliffe Art
Colony. Artists are invited to participate in open studios,
work-shares, communal dinners and field trips, or may spend their
residency working in the creative solitude of a private studio.
Byrdcliffe’s residencies are particularly beneficial to those who find
it restorative to live in a simple, communal environment in close
proximity to natural beauty.
Surrounded
by the Catskill Mountains and just west of the Hudson River, the
Byrdcliffe Art Colony is home to over 80 artists each year, with 60
being hosted by the Artist in Residence Program while the remainder are
those who benefit from our artists’ housing. Beyond the AIR program, the
Colony is comprised of more than a dozen artist cottages, the
Byrdcliffe Theater, the Byrdcliffe Barn, a tennis court and the Mt.
Guardian hiking trail, as well as the Kleinert/James Center for the Arts
which is located in the center of Woodstock. At Byrdcliffe creative
time is sacrosanct, and artists are given free rein to decide what
activities will contribute to their residency experience. Byrdcliffe
offers a unique experience in simplicity of living amid the natural
beauty of a 250 acre campus of protected fields and woodland. At the
same time, Byrdcliffe provides the opportunity to live in a community of
creative people of all ages and backgrounds who are dedicated to
honoring the creative spirit.
Ceramics:

accepts artists working in handbuilding and wheelthrowing techniques. To
be eligible for the residency, artists must have prior experience in
glaze mixing and kiln firing. CERAMIC ARTISTS CAN APPLY FOR 8 WEEK SESSIONS.

Session Dates: Each
four week session is limited to 12-15 individuals. Candidates may apply
for additional weeks in the event a space becomes available. Most
sessions conclude with an Open Studio where residents share their work
with each other and the regional artistic community.

The Long-Term Residency (September 1 – July 31) is ideal for committed
individuals in transition from post baccalaureate studies to graduate
school, as well as those pursuing the development of professional
artistic careers. Self-directed ceramic artists searching for the time,
space and resources needed to explore new ideas and create new work will
enjoy the rural mountainous setting. Accepted residents will be
provided with studio space, housing, utilities, and a monthly stipend in
exchange for twenty hours of work per week at the Clay Center.
Responsibilities will include assisting in the retail operation of the
gallery, teaching community clay classes, as well as cleaning and
maintenance of the studio and gallery. Residents will be responsible for
personal living expenses, as well as all material and firing expenses.
The application deadline is February 1st annually.
Application Fee: $40
The Red Lodge Clay Center welcomes applications from ceramic artists
who will thrive working as a team, in a community minded atmosphere.
The ceramics studio is located approximately six miles north of Red
Lodge, 463 Two Mile Bridge Road. A U.S. Driver’s License is required and
a form of transportation is necessary for the duration of the
residency. Resident artists have 24-hour access to the ceramics studio.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Apply for the Arts Center’s world-renowned Arts/Industry residency
program! Up to sixteen exceptional artists from around the world are
chosen each year for two- to six-month residencies in the Pottery or
Iron/Brass Foundry and Enamel shop in Kohler Co.’s Kohler, Wisconsin,
plant. With the guidance of an excellent staff, artists of all
disciplines can explore new ideas and technologies in order to create a
body of work impossible in their own studio as well as new ways of
thinking and working. Previous experience with clay or metal sculpture
is not required.
Artists
accepted into the program receive housing, transportation, materials,
use of equipment, studio space, photography services, and a small
stipend. Artists-in-residence may work in the Kohler Co. Pottery, Iron
and Brass Foundries, and Enamel Shop to develop a wide variety of work
in clay, enameled cast iron, and brass including but not limited to
murals and reliefs, temporary or permanent site-specific installations,
and functional and sculptural forms.

Immerse yourself in the centuries of art & culture of Rome at c.r.e.t.a. rome!!
The non-profit organization ‘c.r.e.t.a. rome’ is offering an international self-funded residency program in Rome, Italy. The Italian word for clay seemed perfect to express our commitment to creating an international reference point for ceramics and the arts in the eternal city of Rome. Moreover, taken
as an acronym, it spells out our main activities: ceramics,
residencies, exhibitions, teaching and the arts. We are located in the
mid 16th-century Palazzo Delfini in the historical center of Rome, just
blocks from the Capitoline Hill on one side and the Pantheon on the
other.
We offer artist residencies for ceramic artists, visual artists and
writers for periods of 5 or 10 weeks. For Summer 2016, the residency
periods are:
- 27 May- 30 June
- 2 July-31 July
The
residency fee covers a semi-private equipped studio, shared housing
(private room) in the historical center of Rome, and technical
assistance in procuring materials, firings, etc., advice on museums,
galleries and sites in Rome and beyond.
Artists
have the opportunity to focus on their art, whether it be creating a
new body of work, expanding a well-established oeuvre or allowing
themselves to draw inspiration from their surroundings and the centuries
of culture that define the eternal city.
In
addition, they will have access to the wealth of galleries and
exhibitions in Rome and beyond. Artists are encouraged to submit a
proposal for a final exhibition to display the work created during the
residency period.
We
also offer a residency in the countryside near Bracciano, with private
accommodation in a 1-bedroom house with a garden and a private studio.
This option is particularly attractive for collaborative projects and/or
ceramic artists who work with reduction firing as well as non-ceramic
artists who prefer a private studio.
A
selection committee composed of artists, art critics and historians
carefully evaluates applicants based on their artistic experience, merit
