represent the finest quality craft in the country. We encourage you to
apply if you produce original and handmade work in any of the following
categories: basketry, ceramics, clothing & accessories, decorative
fiber, furniture & lighting, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed
media, paper, stone, toys & puzzles, or wood.

Call for entry : Port Hacking Potters 47th National Competition 2012

Tim Mantzouridis – “Ambiguous Perception7” Winner 2010 Port Hacking Potters Award

This event is held every second year at the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Art Centre, Gymea NSW.

The event has been part of the ceramics calendar for the past 50 years
as it used to be held annually.  It has been a spring-board for the
careers of many famous potters and ceramic artists.

In 2012 the event will take place from 22 September with an Official
Opening and will continue until 3 October 2012 when any unsold entries
must be collected.

This year our Judge will be Greg Daly.   Here is a quote from the Entry Form:

About the Judge –

Greg
Daly is a ceramic artist resident of the Cowra district and lecturer at
the Australian National    University – Ceramic Workshop.  A member of
the International Academy of Ceramics – Geneva, he is a ceramicist of
national and international standing with works in national and
over 75 international    galleries / museums. 
“In
my own work, I have concern for the whole piece – throwing, finishing,
glazing, firing, decorating are all important to me in the creation of
the work. Images, illusions of surface and the form they are placed upon
to create individual works”.

SCC Announces New Studio Apprenticeship Program

Emerging Artists Encouraged to Apply 

Applications Due Monday, June 18, 2012 
The Society for Contemporary Craft has launched an exciting new 
apprenticeship program for a recent B.A. or M.F.A. graduate who works in a craft medium. The apprentice will work full-time for SCC’s education department and enjoy access to our studio facilities. This opportunity is ideal for emerging artists looking to gain professional experience in an educational setting while building their own body of work over the course of one year. The apprentice will receive a monthly stipend of $1,000 plus a $300 housing allowance each month. Responsibilities include: 
  • Acquire real-world experience in the day-to-day operations of an educational studio facility.  
  • Teach introductory studio courses and enhance personal teaching skills.  
  • Be mentored by, and assist nationally and internationally known visiting artist instructors.  
  • Learn about marketing, pricing, merchandising and how to sell work through retail galleries.  
  • Create new work while having free access to SCC’s studios and equipment (the apprentice is expected to make work outside of business hours as well as document progress through postings on SCC’s blog).  
  • Work 40 hours per week in The Studio, with one half day set aside weekly to work on personal projects during SCC’s open hours.   
  • Monitor classes, and maintain studio facilities and equipment.  
  • Work with the public to engage visitors in the creative process through artist demonstrations.  
  • Exhibit new works in SCC’s Studio Gallery.

Call for Entry: Craft Forms 2012

The 18th international juried exhibition is dedicated to enhancing the public’s awareness of contemporary
craft while providing a venue for established and emerging artists alike
to share their functional and sculptural creative endeavors.

Juror – Cindi Strauss

Cindi Strauss is Assistant Director, Programming and Curator for
Modern and Contemporary Decorative Arts and Design at the Museum of Fine
Arts, Houston. She holds a BA with honors in Art History from Hamilton
College and an MA in the History of Decorative Arts from the
Cooper-Hewitt/Parsons School of Design. Cindi is a member of the board
of the American Craft Council and the Advisory Council of the Houston
Center for Contemporary Craft and has served as a grant evaluator for
the Pew Charitable Trust and the Center for Craft, Creativity, and
Design.
