This spring, the Museum of the Gulf Coast invites high school students to submit ceramic or clay sculptures for the annual High School Art Contest. The competition is inspired by Earth Songs, an upcoming exhibition of clay vessels created by ceramic artist Linnis Blanton which will be on view at the Museum March 27 through May 30.

Student entries are limited to 18” x 18” and may be painted, glazed, fired, or plain. The submission deadline is March 18, 2011 and entries can be dropped off at the Museum of the Gulf Coast located at 700 Procter St. in Port Arthur or at The Art Studio, Inc. located at 720 Franklin St. in Beaumont. All works must be accompanied by an official entry form to be considered for display. Entry forms may be obtained at the Museum of the Gulf Coast or on the Museum’s website at www.museumofthegulfcosat.org under the Education and Outreach link.

Entries will be displayed at the Museum of the Gulf Coast from March 27-April 26 in association with Earth Songs. Blanton will judge student works and an awards ceremony will be held March 27 at 2 p.m. during the opening reception for Earth Songs.

The Museum of the Gulf Coast is owned and operated by the Port Arthur Historical Society in partnership with Lamar State College – Port Arthur and the City of Port Arthur. Call for Entry: NCECA 2011 Exhibition

Description of Show:
Cafecito, a Juried Exhibition of Espresso Cups. The juror, McKenzie Smith, is an artist native to Florida and currently residing in the Tampa Bay area. This show is a toast to the historical Cuban influences in Tampa that are steeped with the Cuban coffee traditions of cafecito (café cubano) and café con leche. Cafecito represents contemporary interpretations of espresso and demitasse cups.

Juror:
McKenzie Smith is a potter working in Florida. McKenzie worked as a Core Student at the Penland School of Crafts. He received his BFA from the University of South Florida and his MFA from the University of Florida. Residencies include the Archie Bray Foundation, Banff Center For The Arts, Baltimore Clayworks, and the University of Miami. Smith has exhibited widely and taught numerous workshops.

Eligibility:
Is open to all artists eighteen years and older. Artworks must be original and completed within the last two years. Any interpretation of demitasse/espresso cups will be considered for the exhibition. All works must not exceed 5 inches in any dimension. All artwork must be primarily ceramic.

Delivery and Return of Artwork:
The artist is responsible for delivering or shipping the artwork to and from the Cafecito/CafeHey. A bar-coded shipping label from UPS / FedEx or a check to cover costs of return shipping must be included with all shipped work. The artist is responsible for insuring the artwork while it is in transit.
Entry Procedures:

Image Details:
All images must be in JPEG format and submitted via email. File size should be approximately 5″ x 7″ at 300 dpi.
Please name image files with the first initial and last name of the artist and the entry number i.e. jharris_entry1.jpg

Cafecito
will retain the submitted images of accepted artwork and reserves the right to use the images in publications and publicity for the Exhibition and for Cafe Hey advertising.
Please note: Entries will be considered when all three steps are complete.

Emerging Artists 2011 – call for entry

In May 2011, Ceramics Monthly will feature the works of emerging clay artists. Those actively pursuing a career in ceramics for less than ten years are eligible.

To be considered submit the following:
• Up to five professional-quality digital images (300 ppi resolution on CD, plus a full-size color print of each image), with complete descriptions of works.
• Full contact information including e-mail, artist’s statement and résumé.

Potclays Emerging Makers International Ceramics Festival Award 2011

What is it?: The Emerging Makers Award is an opportunity for new potters and artists working with clay who have graduated from college within the past five years, to present a Powerpoint slideshow about their practice at the 2011 International Ceramics Festival. 
Six makers will be selected to make presentations on their work each lasting 15 minutes (including a Q7A session) at the Festival. The presentations will take place in the lecture rooms. From the six selected, one will be chosen by festival audience to receive an award kindly donated by Potclays. Each of the six makers will receive a ticket to the Festival weekend. What to do next: Applicants are asked to submit a simple 10 minute PowerPoint presentation of images on a CD along with one side of A4 information about themselves, their practice to date and plans for the future, as well as 3 reasons why they should be selected.
