We are accepting submissions for Cup: The Intimate Object XVII, which we will host this fall. Each year this international exhibition brings together some of the most exciting handmade cups in contemporary ceramics. We welcome submissions by national and international artists in all stages of their careers, from current students and artists who are just emerging on the scene to those who are well established.
We require submissions to include exactly five outstanding cups that are the same ones you would send for the show if accepted. You can review all submission requirements and details under Gallery Submissions on our website. As usual it is free to submit cups for consideration for this exhibition.

Description: The Artists in Residence Program is at the heart of creativity at Medalta. Artists from all over the world come to Medalta for lengths of time from one month to a year to make in a community that validates risk and nurtures creativity. This self-directed residency is designed to serves artists at all stages of their careers. Students, emerging artists, and established artists are able to work together in our open, spacious, semi-private studios.

The Citizens of Craft Virtual Market is a collaboration between Fabrique 1840 and the Canadian Crafts Federation. Our goal is to promote craft artists and expand their online reach. Supported by Canadian retailer Simons, ‘Fabrique 1840’ is a vital showcase for handmade products, connecting craft artists with the notoriety and visibility of the broader Simons.ca website.
For context, through the simons.ca platform, Fabrique 1840 reaches:
- 260,000 unique visitors per month
- An online community of over 360,000 followers
- 1 million newsletter subscribers
The Citizens of Craft Virtual Market will launch online on October 1, 2021, and special promotions will last 1 month. Products selected for the market will remain on the platform after the run of this promotion, at the discretion of Fabrique 1840.

Conditions for participation:
The Canadian Crafts Federation is offering the opportunity for active members of the Provincial and Territorial Craft Councils to apply to this virtual market, for free. If selected, there are no additional registration fees for the event. However, participating artists must comply with Fabrique 1840’s rules of use that are in place for all of their business partners. These rules are described in the business model below.
If your work is selected for the virtual market, online product descriptions will be written and translated by the Fabrique 1840 team.
How to participate
To submit your application, you must:
- Complete a table of information about the products that you would like to sell. You may propose up to 6 products. Each row corresponds to a product and each column provides information that will allow Fabrique 1840 to write the product descriptions.
- Submit a photo for each product you are submitting. At this stage, the photos do not need to be professional. They just have to clearly show the product so that it is able to be understood. If selected, artists must work with Fabrique 1840 to take product photos that meet their professional criteria. Upload 1 to 3 photos of each product you are submitting.

The Artist in Residence Program through the Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard, offers dedicated artists the opportunity to involve themselves in research and growth, pushing their art in new directions in a dynamic, urban studio connected to the Harvard community. Individuals will have the opportunity to build relevant skills in research, professional development, technical ability, creative problem solving, teaching and community involvement through our Artist in Residence Program.
The Artist in Residence Program offers:
Personal studio space (60 sq. ft.) in addition to use of common studio space
7 day studio access
Free access to materials – clay, glaze and use of kilns (electric, saggar, wood fire, soda and gas) up to excess
Opportunities to take classes and firing workshops within the program
Paid teaching opportunities within the program for both community and academic based classes.
Opportunities to teach in Boston area programs, colleges and universities.
Solo exhibition in Gallery 224 of work completed during residency
Attend visiting artist workshops and symposium offered within the program
Exhibition/sales opportunities in two annual Show and Sales
Access to studio equipment including slab roller, extruder, spray booth, plaster mold-making room and glaze mixing area
Access to studio lighting and background material for documenting work
Website visibility
Access to Harvard University Library and Museums with provided ID
Opportunities for participation in academic collaborations with the Harvard community
Expectations of Artist in Residence
One year commitment
Must spend 20 hours/week of time dedicated to personal work
One public workshop presentation

In the wake of the recent Black Lives Matter movement, following the deaths of BIPOC individuals involving police, and the Indigenous Land Back movement, it became all too clear that the concept of diversity and inclusion is yet to be achieved. Systemic racism and neo-colonialism, homophobia and transphobia, racial profiling, the extreme right movement are still well anchored in our society, and emphasizing that we are far from being an inclusive society.
We announce a national open call for submissions from Canadian clay, glass and copper enamel artists for Myths and Realities, a national group exhibition that will spark conversation, and reflect on changes we must face related to important societal issues. We welcome submissions from artists who broadly embrace or identify with the theme of diversity and inclusion and all related issues in their artistic practices and experiences including, but not limited to, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, and mental or physical abilities. Multi-media works and those that incorporate new media within the use of clay, glass, and copper enameling will be considered. The selected works will be presented in the exhibition from September 2022 to January 2023.
