Recently the oh so awesome and amazing Vicki Hardin of Clay Art Web compiled a guide to great Clay art on Etsy. You know I love Etsy, I’m an addict for sure, but sometimes it is like going to a flea market where you are bound to find that treasure that you just have to take home with you, but it takes a while of sifting through junk to find it. That’s why lists like Vicki’s are so helpful to cut through some of the (sorry, i’m going to say it, forgive me and know that I don’t speak of any of you fine readers that’s for sure!) crap.
So in light of this wonderful list – which I encourage you to go and check out and get your name added to if you’ve got an Etsy shop – I thought I share with you some of my recently lovely Etsy finds which are on my Christmas wish list.
Oh and a small reminder (okay major reminder – come on people!!!) that I’m still looking for artists for December’s Artist of the Day Profiles! What don’t you guys like FREE stuff? Or maybe it’s my free stuff you’re just not that interested in. LOL. Check out the original post here.

Alright folks, I’ve been thinking again lately that it’s time for another ARTIST OF THE DAY month here at musing. Last April was so much fun, so let’s give it another go. This time to sweeten the deal I’m going to be offering a giveaway as incentive to get you guys to send in your work. Here’s how it will go:
- Open to any reader of the blog. International submissions encouraged.
- All you need to do is send me some images of your work, a brief bio, a brief statement about your work (nothing serious, don’t stress about it!) and a link to your website/and/or email if you want people to be able to contact you. (let me know if you DON’T want your email included in the post)
- Include your mailing address (for my eyes only in case you win)
- Artists previously shown in the last Artist of the day month are still eligible, but you MUST send me new work.
Now I know what you’re saying – what about the giveaway Carole?????
There will be 2 prizes, so 2 ways to enter – but you can only win once.
#1 way to win – SUBMIT YOUR WORK!!! I’m going to randomly chose a day of the month out of a hat (after the month has passed) and the artist showcased on that day will be a winner.
#2 way to win – COMMENT,COMMENT,COMMENT!!! Give these artists of the day some love and adoration and you could be on your way to winning! At the end of the month I’ll randomly chose another number out of a hat for a day of the month, then I’ll randomly chose a number to correspond with the number of comments attached to the post. If your comment represents the chosen number you are a winner. If you are the comment winner I’ll notify you at the end of the month to get address info.
Sounds complicated? Naw, simple. All you have to do is send me your info and images ASAP to ensure you have a spot as an Artist of the month and then once the posts go live in December comment as much as you can.
Oh and as for the prizes??? Well it’ll be 2 ceramic items of equal value from the shelves of my studio, not sure what yet, but i promise it’ll be worth it!
It’s up to you guys to make December full of beautiful posts here on Musing, and my gift in return is a piece of my own artwork sent to you, wherever in the world you might live – free of charge.

This fine friday morning you should HURRY over to have a look at the gorgeous website of Paterson Industries aka Mariko Paterson. It’s well worth your time. Fantastically subversive work and a great artist statement to boot.

And while you’re at it might I suggest checking out one of her latest initiatives Box Social, a Canadian online gallery and shop. They also have a blog listing all of their real world activities as well if you want to experience the art in person. Like this one:

Have a great friday everyone!

Nothing makes my day like when readers send lovely emails which end with links to their websites and blogs. There are only so many hours in the day to get things accomplished and hours it seems get eaten up in front of the computer, either productively or otherwise…so when people can help to direct me to gorgeous art to share with you guys it completely makes my day.
When Margaret Matsuyama contacted me I was immediately drawn to her work. (You likely get a sense by now that I’m a bit partial to figurative work, it’s my weakness.) But seriously how sweet are these?

Not only are they charming, they pack a good punch in terms of subject matter. Here’s a bit from Margaret’s artist statement:
“Art acts as a crossroads between my varied interests, and the different sides of my identity. I am drawn to work evoking childhood experience and the repression of identity when it does not conform to social norms. I am also interested in exploring the subtle differences of identity, and its fragility or impermanence.”

For more insight into her work and more images of other pieces check out her website, and of course you should become a follower of her blog as well! (Oh and make sure you make the little guys dance on the home page of her website, hours of entertainment!)

Lately I’ve spent way too much time working on a new series of sculptural work that is filled with skulls, wanna be angels and the darker side of humanity. When I stumbled across Valerie’s work in her etsy shop
Goodliving I was quite taken back. The serene beauty of her work, it’s speechless elegance spoke volumes to me about the emotions and aspects of humanity that I often try to capture in my own work. Here it was in front of me. Addressed from a completely different perspective and approach, and oh so beautifully rendered.

Each piece has such personality in their eyes. Such narrative in their stance.

Check out more of Valerie’s work here in her etsy shop.
