The V&A is inviting applications from UK-based studio ceramicists who wish to develop their practice in designing and making ceramics through working with the V&A’s collections and through public engagement activities.
The Residency will be based in a purpose-built studio in the Ceramics galleries, at the V&A in London. This is part of an exciting new programme of residencies specifically situated in the Ceramics galleries. This Residency will take place over a six-month period from October 2012 –March 2013 in London.

Talking water: artists-in-residence is a series of residencies within Canberra’s National Park and Nature Reserve, a public forum, an exhibition, and a catalogue drawing together the arts, heritage and the environment, which promotes and showcases Canberra’s distinct natural and cultural landscape. The program is presented by Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre in partnership with the Rural District Parks, Conservation and Land and supported by ACTEW Corporation. In 1908 the Yass-Canberra area was selected for the nation’s capital as it best filled the requirements with regard to adequate water supply, climate and landform suitable for the building of a ‘garden city’. Through discussion, engagement and interpretation, Talking water: artists-in-residence will draw attention to sustainability and Canberra’s water catchment areas. An exhibition featuring work inspired by the artist’s time spent living in the National Park or Nature Reserve, and in response to the theme, Talking water, will be held in the Centre’s gallery in March 2013, coinciding with the centenary of Canberra celebrations. Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre is calling for expressions of interest from individual craft practitioners and designer makers, to undertake a residency as part of the Talking water: artists-in-residence project. Members, as well as local and national craft practitioners and designer makers are invited to apply. Three residency placements will be offered to Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre members. Group applications are not accepted. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply. Four residencies, two in April and two in September, are being offered. Two residencies at each of the huts is available at Gudgenby Ready-Cut Cottage in the Namadgi National Park and Nil Desperandum Homestead in the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. The Centre will provide a stipend of $ 1,000.00 for each artist-in-residence. Artists are responsible for all costs associated with the residency including travel. Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend the information day on Saturday 10 March, 2012. The information day is an opportunity for applicants to visit the residency sites, and to hear first hand from Park Rangers about the area and the guidelines for staying in the National Park or Nature Reserve. Artist In Residence Program Red Deer College has expanded its Visual Arts facility in the newly opened Center for Visual Art in the Four Centers Building and now has three purpose built Artist-in-Residence Studios.
The studios are designed to attract artists to Red Deer and to give an opportunity for emerging and professional artists alike to engage in research in an inspiring environment with equipment that they would not otherwise have access to. The ambition of the program is to promote meaningful interaction between the students, the resident artists and the community at large. The AIR studios are available during two 15 week periods; September to December and January to April coinciding with the academic year. The new studios are designed to offer interested artists an opportunity to chart some new territory by stepping outside of their usual studio routine. Through the interaction with students and staff in the Visual Art Department and beyond the resident artist can take advantage of the opportunity to research and produce new work that contributes to their discipline. Collaborations across media and with the RDC’s Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing, where there is access to rapid prototyping, water-jet cutting, and CNC milling offer up possibilities that will prove to be fruitful and position RDC to be a destination for innovative art research. Artists applying should have a current and active practice and have completed their basic training and able to work in a self-directed manner. Core Clay is a privately owned clay studio with 40+ artists sharing space. We house a sculpting studio for a mannequin prototype sculptor and a retail space for clay supply. We host workshops with nationally known andlocal artists. Each of these areas interacts with the artists in residence. The Clay supply business offers a line of tools, clay and glaze materials available at most clay supplies, as well as our own in-house designed glazes and tools exclusive to Core Clay. This area involves formulating and mixing glazes for sale, creating plaster forms, and keeping inventory levels accurate. The mannequin sculpting involves the creation of full-size human forms, then mold-making and casting of those forms. A major part of this business involves learning to photograph work, as well as safely packing and shipping finished prototypes. The public studio houses 40 artists who share ideas and interact with each other artistically. One of the most valuable parts of sharing space with other artists is to see an idea work its way through the group, changing with each incarnation. This area involves general studio maintenance, kiln loading, clay pugging, teaching beginners, and glaze mixing Workshops are an important opportunity to learn from outside artists and they require extensive preparation. Artists in Residence working in this area will learn the details of putting together a multi-day event, from searching for presenters and arranging to feed and house a large group of people, to following up afterwards. This job involves developing publicity and computer skills. The Goal of the Artist in Residence Program:
We provide an opportunity in an artists community for clay artists at the beginning of their careers to get a start as full time professional artists. Our dream is to create a community of artists that fosters creativity and practicality in the arts, and grows a long term group of contacts for artists long after their program has ended. We offer a working relationship with professional artists–wheel throwers, and full-time figurative sculptors. Artist in Residence Required Activities
- Maintain professional journal for future artists in residence

- Create 2’x2’ tile for artist in residence wall or design a personal cone 6 or lowfire glaze
- minimum 5 hours per week on creation of work or clay study/research
