The Gam Submissions for Grand Opening Show December 10th 2009
The Gam Gallery and Studio is an open space for artists to create and to show, inclusive to all disciplines of artistic endeavors. Our goal is to encourage participation and motion toward creating a dynamic and thoughtful culture. It is a place to meet and learn from the talented people within our community, to get inspired and inspire others.
The Gam is located at 110 E Hastings St (at Columbia), in an artists’ only building. The building is in a great location for art events such as Swarm, and will be taking part in art/craft sales and culture crawls through the Olympics and beyond!

Not to be missed – this weekend!
So I realize I’ve been a bit quieter than usual on the blog and twitter, main reason is I’ve been firing my poor little 3 cubic foot kiln non stop getting ready for the potters guild sale this weekend where I’m going to be selling some of my new line of functional wares. The work I haven’t shared with you yet, as i’m still a bit shy about it….It’s not my usual at all. I’ve been handbuilding – working with simple molds lately, as I haven’t been able to throw for a while now. Why you ask…well long story short, I’ve had some strange skin problem on my hands since I was pregnant with my son 2 years ago. The specialists (ie: dermatologists) are working on it, but in the meantime I can only work in the studio with gloves on, and well I’ve tried throwing with gloves on, and frankly not work the frustration – pieces are either 5 pound cups or they slump from way too much water! Any way, no drama or winny business here…
The point is I’d love to see you guys stop by the sale this weekend if you can make it! And just be gently with your critique of the new work : )

Red Lodge Clay Center is pleased to announce our search for a full time Gallery Coordinator. It is the gallery’s mission to create an appreciation of art through the exhibition and sale of contemporary ceramics.
The ideal candidate would have an extensive knowledge of contemporary ceramics, the ceramic medium, and previous gallery experience. Sales experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. Strong office administration, business skills, and computer database knowledge are essential.
The Gallery Coordinator will curate and install gallery exhibitions; maintain gallery website; monitor inventory and sales; receive, pack and ship inventory; oversee resident assistants working in the gallery; facilitate public relations and advertising; and work with the Executive Director and Staff to develop programs to enhance the Center’s educational mission.
Starting annual salary $33,000 or commensurate with experience.

Boise State University is currently accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Ceramics beginning fall 2010. Boise State University’s ceramics program has a thriving and long standing history within the community at large. The program brings in nationally recognized ceramic visiting artists to the community for workshops and lectures.
You will have the opportunity to:
* Teach 3 courses each semester in all levels of undergraduate ceramics.
* Teach courses in undergraduate seminar and three-dimensional design on a rotating basis.
* Participate in a vibrant and growing MFA graduate program.
* Actively participate in departmental and university service including curriculum development.
* Maintain a strong national/international exhibition record.
* Provide supervision, maintenance, safety, improvement and efficacy of the ceramics facilities and program.
At a minimum you should have:
* MFA in Visual Art.
* Two years post-graduate teaching experience is preferred.
* Extensive knowledge in all the core methodologies, techniques and processes involved in ceramic art.
The preferred candidate will have:
* Distinguished research and professional experience in the medium, and within the larger framework of visual art.
* Extensive knowledge of historical and contemporary studies and practices that engage ceramics as a method of inquiry and visual communication.
* Developed educational strategies for providing meaningful professional and academic guidance to students engaged in the program, within the department and the field of visual art as a whole.

Include 20 images of current work and 20 images of student work (sized to 800 pixels longest dimension at 72 dpi) with image ID list. Include titles and image ID number in file names. Time-based work, if applicable, must be a separate file on the CD in a standard video format (Quicktime preferred) and no longer than five minutes. Wood Firing with Jack Troy &
Robert Barron
Two masters of the technique join together to provide a unique perspective gleaned from eight decades of their combined ceramic experience.
Jack Troy taught for 39 years at Juniata College in Pennsylvania and has instructed workshops, published books, poetry and over 60 articles in ceramic publications. Robert Barron is an internationally-known wood-firer who runs Gooseneck Pottery in Victoria, Australia where he fires a 1,000 cu.ft. 5-chambered kiln.
Bring cone 10 bisqued pots to fill 4 cu.ft. of kiln space. Those wishing to use Shadbolt glazes must come on Monday, March 15 from 1:30-5:30pm (open workshop fee applies).
Entrance into the 2010 Canadian Clay Symposium: Aesthetics is included in the price. No refunds after February 12, 2010.
