The Long-Term Residency (September 1 – July 31)
is ideal for committed individuals in transition from post
baccalaureate studies to graduate school, as well as those pursuing the
development of professional artistic careers. Self-directed ceramic
artists searching for the time, space and resources needed to explore
new ideas and create new work will enjoy the rural mountainous setting.
Accepted residents will be provided with studio space, housing,
utilities, and a monthly stipend in exchange for twenty hours of work
per week at the Clay Center. Responsibilities will include assisting in
the retail operation of the gallery, teaching community clay classes, as
well as cleaning and maintenance of the studio and gallery. Residents
will be responsible for personal living expenses, as well as all
material and firing expenses. The application deadline is February 1st annually.

Students will learn about screen-printing and how to set up shop.
Demonstrations will include a Photoshop introduction to alter images and
drawings, how to create multiple stencils using silkscreens, and
additional surface design decorations such as decals and lusters.
Students will discover the process of slip and newsprint transfer
application and various decoration demos to create rich layered
surfaces. Audiovisual presentations will offer extensive examples of
print implementations in contemporary ceramics . At the end of the
course students will have all the skills and information needed to make
their own successful transfers.

“Longing for Repetition”

Longing for Repetition is a National Juried and Invitational Exhibition hosted by the Carbondale Clay Center, that
explores ceramic work that represents a dialogue between parts, and is
strengthened through the use of multiples, sets, or the repetition of
form.
This exhibition is open to all types of utilitarian
and sculptural ceramics as well as small installations that explore
multiples, sets, or repetition. Clay should be the primary medium. One
entry selected by our juror will receive a $100 “best in show” award.
(Only juried entries are eligible.)

“Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts is a national art education center.
The School offers weekend, one- and two-week workshops for the beginner
to advanced artist, taught by national and international practicing
studio artists and university faculty. Students work and learn in
professionally equipped studios on a 14-acre residential campus in
Gatlinburg, TN. A series of weekly classes are also offered for
residents of the local community. Workshops and classes are offered in
ceramics, fiber, metals/jewelry, painting, drawing, photography, warm
glass, woodturning, woodworking, mixed media, books and paper. “
