Ceramic Materials Workshop – Classes start July 1st!!!
Andile Dyalvane Master Class
OUT Maine @ Haystack Mountain School of Crafts
Celebrated LGBTQ artists from around the U.S. will teach each workshop to help empower and inspire 70 Maine young LGBTQ people to see themselves in their fullest capacity and model an open and out life in the arts. Youth participants will work and learn alongside one another in the studios in a safe and supportive community. Students, faculty and chaperones will live on campus for three days and participate in evening presentations and discussion groups facilitated by teaching artists. Ceramics with Joshua Paul Hebbert: Clay vessels: Storytelling and identity
Joshua Paul Hebbert has worked for a variety of cultural craft institutions, including Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and the Museum of Contemporary Craft. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. He received his MFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder and his BFA from Creighton University in Ceramics. He is currently an artist in residence at the Clay Studio, in Philadelphia, PA. www.joshuahebbert.com

Is MN NICE right for you?
MN NICE supports the development of studio work and provides high-level training in ceramic materials, history and theory, and professional practices. Through instruction and individual mentorship, students build skills, knowledge, and insight necessary to create a personal and cohesive body of work. The program is led by ceramics artist and educator, Ursula Hargens, and is supported by the talents of myriad ceramic artists from around the region and from across the country.
Hargens explains, “Many individuals are eager to further their ceramic education and seek a professional credential, but family, employment, financial and time constraints limit their ability to do so within a traditional academic structure. This certificate program is designed to fill this gap, providing a flexible, yet challenging environment that responds to the needs of non-traditional students, giving them quality information, academic rigor, critical dialogue, and critique as they develop their artistic practice and strengthen their work.”

Nature Tradition: Cultivating Inspirations in Clay
July 8-12, 2019

Open to all levels, basic wheel throwing skills recommended
In this 5-day workshop participants will work side-by-side with me in my Helena, Montana studio. The workshop is focused on porcelain. I will demonstrate a variety of wheel-thrown forms, my approach to trimming pottery, methods for carving intricate pattern on functional forms, as well as glazing and high firing in my reduction glaze kiln. From ancient Korean techniques, to innovative solutions for timeless problems, participants will develop a new perspective on creating and decorating functional pottery. They will learn new skills for mapping out and carving geometric patterns in clay. Generous discussions about studio practice, aesthetics, materials, ceramic history, and promotion and marketing strategies for the studio potter are certain to encourage individual discovery, growth, and development of fresh ideas. Workshop attendees will gain the skills and confidence to create and decorate work in their own voice.
