This is a conversation between Kari Radasch, Elizabeth “Beth” Robinson, and me, Leanne McClurg Cambric, who documented it. We all are working artists and moms of young kids, who graduated from high-profile masters programs in the early 2000s and have had a running fifteen-year dialogue about our struggles to balance our personal and professional lives. Even finding time for a conversation like this one was a challenge, as we live in three different time zones. Artist Talks: Trudy Golley and Paul Leathers @ Medalta

Join us for Artist Talks in the Shed at Medalta in the Historic Clay
District. Trudy Golley and Paul Leathers, current artists-in-residence
will be speaking on their recent works and research. This is Golley’s
third residency at Medalta, and her mother actually worked at Medalta in
the 1940s.

About the Artists:
Trudy Golley
Born in Revelstoke, Golley studied at ACAD and received her BFA from
the University of Calgary with a major in Ceramics and a minor in Art
History. She went on to receive her MFA from the University of Tasmania
in Hobart, Australia. The recipient of numerous awards, scholarships
and grants, Trudy’s work has been exhibited and collected
internationally. She has taught at various institutions and in 2002, was
inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. The Ceramics
instructor in the School of Creative Arts at Red Deer College, she has
lived and worked in Red Deer, AB since 2000.
Paul Leathers
Born in Winnipeg, Leathers graduated from Sheridan College’s School of
Crafts & Design, and received his BFA from NSCAD with a major in
Jewellery and a minor in Art History. He went on to receive his MFA in
Sculpture from the University of Calgary. The recipient of numerous
awards, scholarships and grants, Paul’s work has been exhibited and
collected internationally. He has taught at various institutions, served
on Boards of Directors, and in 2006, was inducted into the Royal
Canadian Academy of Arts. He is currently a full-time artist who has
lived and worked in Red Deer, AB since 2000.

NCECA Student Critique Room – Sign up NOW!
The
NCECA Student Critique Room gives students at all levels an opportunity
to discuss images of their work, gain a new perspective, and prepare
for graduate school, job applications, gallery representation and more.
Student Critiques will be held Thursday March 23, & Friday March 24, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm in room in room C124 (Level 1) of the Portland Conference Center.

Exploring a wide range of forming and surface treatments, our
presenters will incorporate design elements in the early construction

adapted for your personal aesthetic and help take your ceramic expertise
