Calling all ceramic artists to head to the studio and grab any unused N95 masks and gloves that you have kicking around and donate them to your local hospital. Already front line healthcare workers in some places are being asked to use bandanas. Let’s do what we can to help keep folks safe during COVID19. Colleges and community studios please raid your stockpiles.
Many thanks!
Be well everyone.

Times are tough and I honestly in all the years of running this blog (13 years and counting!) I wanted to avoid what I’m doing right now. I’ve always wanted Musing to be a free resource. In the current climate of COVID 19 artists and self employed are struggling and facing a lot of future uncertainty. Today I lost the 6th paid job in 2 weeks. So I guess I’ve reached a tipping point and need to reach out to our community for support. I really want to be able to continue to support our community, raise up artists, and share creative and educational content. If you can support Musing at this time my sincere thanks. If you can’t, I totally understand. Even just helping share this post is appreciated.

Much love to all.

“This week on the Tales of a Red Clay Rambler I have an interview with Alex Kraft and Tony Merino. Both are established ceramic artists and co-curators of the exhibition 50 Women: A Celebration of Women in Ceramics. The exhibition will open in 2016 at the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, MO and will be one of the major exhibitions featured during this year’s 50th NCECA conference. In the interview we talk about gender, dismantling hierarchies, and the challenges of curating a large scale exhibition. For more information please visit their Facebook page or YouTube Channel.”

It is with regret that we are informing you that the 2020 Canadian Clay Symposium at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts on March 21, 2020 has been postponed. We look forward to presenting you with this year’s Perspectives in Canadian Ceramics in March of 2021 – details to be announced as soon as they are confirmed.
The Symposium attracts presenters and patrons from local, national and international locations and while we take pride in connecting people from many places through a shared love for ceramic art, due to travel restrictions and health concerns expressed by presenters and participants, we can no longer offer a quality symposium experience this year.
The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts will be processing full refunds – if you have not already withdrawn from this event, we respectfully request your patience with this process as it will take some time to contact each participant directly. If you have not heard from us by April 1st please feel free to contact the front desk at 604-297-4440 at that time.
We thank you for your understanding in this matter and look forward to seeing you in March 2021.

In light of the reality that many of our colleagues are scrambling to create online learning for their ceramics students, Studio Potter is offering a three-month free membership to ceramic departments or your school library. Our archive of over 8,000 pages of content will be accessable to professors and their students, and it is an excellent resource for remote ceramic education.
Any university or educational center affected by COVID-19 is eligible for the free three month membership. All students and faculty will access the journal under one log in for the three month period.
If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please have a faculty or staff member of your organization email Jess Detweiler at [email protected]. We will set up one account for each group. Include the following information in your email:
1. Your name
2. Your organization’s name
3. The email address you would like associated with the log in
4. Estimated number of students that will access the journal through this log in
Furthermore, we encourage you to give your students a writing assignment – Create an article for Studio Potter. You screen the submissions and send your top three to Jill Foote-Hutton at [email protected] for consideration. Selected student authors will be published on studiopotter.org and will receive a one year membership to Studio Potter.
Need some some suggestions for how to use Studio Potter as an educational resource? Look no further! Check out there blog update HERE.
Studio Potter remains committed to supporting our ceramics community. If you would like to help support our efforts, please donate to us today.
