18 Hands Gallery is looking for entries for its 2009 “For the Table Show,” a juried exhibition that will run the month of August (in conjunction with the Houston Heights White Linen Night celebration). This exhibition will feature original hand-crafted items that might be found on a dinner table. All artwork must be original and produced within the last 18 months. All media are eligible and submissions are open to Texas and Louisiana artists only. Entry fee is $25.00, payable to 18 Hands Gallery. Job Posting – Red Deer College

CERAMICS TECHNICIAN – VISUAL ART
Permanent Full-Time

DUTIES:

This is a great opportunity to work within the creative and stimulating environment and brand new state of the art facilities of the Red Deer College Visual Art program. As the Ceramics Technician, you will support both the Credit and Continuing Education Visual Art programs. You will provide technical support for students and instructors in ceramics. Duties include preparation for, and assistance with, classes; monitoring supplies; and ensuring safety standards are met. You will achieve results through effective utilization of strong technical and communication skills. You will consistently exhibit the ability to multi-task and prioritize large workload demands from all areas of the department. In the credit program, you will oversee studio processes as well as the capital and operational inventory of the Ceramics Studio and provide some materials and studio management support in the area of Printmaking. For Continuing Education, you will provide technical support for non-credit programming, primarily through the summer months.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 completion
  • Good comprehension of ceramic processes and studio maintenance
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with a variety of people
  • Some knowledge of the variety of technical processes related to the needs of the ceramics area
  • Willingness to work with Chair of Visual Art and Continuing Education Visual Art Coordinator in the scheduling of vacation in order to facilitate effective support of both credit and credit-free programming.

Ceramic teaching position – University of Regina

The Department of Visual Arts at the University of Regina is seeking applications for an Instructor III position in the area of CERAMICS beginning Aug 01, 2009 and ending May 30, 2010.

Applicants should have a Masters Degree in Fine Arts, or equivalent terminal degree, an active exhibition record and teaching experience at the University level. This position requires expertise in a variety of forms of traditional and non-traditional ceramics practices and thorough knowledge of ceramics technologies including: wheel throwing, hand building, glaze technology and a variety of low and high (gas and electric) temperature firing processes. In addition, the ability to discuss historical and theoretical aspects of ceramics as part of current art discourse is essential. The successful applicant will teach ceramics in the undergraduate and graduate programs and possibly teach 3D Foundation as well. An ability to teach in other studio areas would be considered an asset. The Visual Arts Department has a distinguished history of Ceramics education and exceptional facilities with excellent equipment and studios. Faculty are provided with generous studio space on campus.

RBSA Open Ceramics Call for Submission

Deadline Friday May 15th

The RBSA is holding an Open Ceramics exhibition this August and inviting entries from designer makers and artists from all over the UK who work in clay. This will be a first for the RBSA and a special event for ceramics, certainly in the West Midlands. It will be an opportunity for makers of all styles and techniques to showcase their work, covering all aspects of the contemporary ceramic scene – studio ceramics, sculptural forms or experimental pieces – be they established or emerging makers. All work must be fired. Each maker will be asked to submit 3 photos of their style of work, and 1 photo demonstrating the size and scale of their work, for selection. Those selected will then be asked to submit up to 6 pieces for the exhibition.
