The Buchanan Center for the Arts is calling all artists for its 64 Arts National Juried Exhibition.
There will be $2,800 in awards given in the following categories: $1,000 for the Mary Jane Twomey award for best of show; $300 for the OSF Holy Family Medical Center painting award; $300 for the Eleanor Inness Meith Works on paper award; $300 for ceramics; $300 for sculpture; $300 for mixed media; and $300 for photography.
The juror for 64 ARTS is Adrian Arleo, a studio artist living in Lolo, Mont. She studied art and anthropology at Pitzer College and received her master’s degree in fine arts in ceramics from Rhode Island School of Design in 1986.
Her sculpture is exhibited nationally and internationally, and is in numerous public and private collections, including The World Ceramic Exposition Foundation, Icheon, Korea; The Museum of Arts and Sciences, Macon, Ga.; The Racine Museum of Fine Arts, Racine, Wis.; Yellowstone Art Museum, Billings, Mont.; Microsoft, Seattle; Harborview Medical Center, Seattle; Gloria and Sonny Kamm, Los Angeles; Ruth Kohler, Kohler, Wis.; and Candace Groot, Chicago.
In 1991 and 1992, Arleo received second place and recognition awards from the Virginia A. Groot Foundation, and in 1995, was awarded a Montana Arts Council Individual Fellowship.

exploring the voices of craft makers 35 & younger
This exhibition will reveal the distinctive voice of our current handmade culture by featuring craft artists of generation Y (born between 1976 – 2000).
Questions for reflecting on the theme:
• Why did you start making craft?
• What is the inspiration or origin of your work?
• Are you making a statement? (Feminism, environmentalism, anti-capitalism, etc.)
• What are the future goals of your craft?
This call is open to all current and former Alberta artists ages 35 and younger working in fine craft mediums. Fine craft mediums include clay, fibre, metal, glass, wood, stone & found objects.
** All pieces must be original in design – no kits or patterns **
Your submission should include:
• a brief statement answering some of the above questions
• artist bio, contact information & year of birth
• up to 10 good quality images (digital – 4”x6” 300dpi) of work to be in the exhibition
• an image list that includes title, medium, technique, year made, size & photo credit

The Ceramics Annual of America (CAA) is an exhibition mounted to spotlight the quality and diversity of the contemporary ceramics field. The CAA exhibition is presented by the California Ceramics Cooperative, a dedicated, grass roots organization formed by artists, educators and curators who share a desire to invest i the future of the ceramic field by honoring recent history and focusing attention on the work of contemporary artists. Artist Residency Program
In 1998 Mudflat began offering a one year residency position to clay artists.
This highly competitive program provides a private studio space at no cost with
access to Mudflat’s facility, and opportunities for the resident to teach and sell

September 1 – August 31
Residency includes:
- Private 100 sq. foot studio space
- 24 hour access
- A monthly stipend of $50, to be applied to clay materials and firing costs.
- Opportunities to teach in our educational programs and for retail sales at
- our Open Studio events and at Mudflat Gallery

Residency requirements:
- Artists are expected to spend a minimum of 20 hours per week in their studio
- Artists are required to work 5 hours per week for Mudflat, assisting with technical jobs
- 2 public presentations during the residency. The first, in September, is a slide show of the artist’s work.
- Applicants should have knowledge of a variety of clay techniques and some kiln firing experience, the ability to work independently, and enthusiasm and willingness to be part of an urban clay community.

(12 spaces available) In this 10 day workshop artists will be introduced to all aspects of the mould making process. Starting with prototyping, the class will move through the development of simple one piece moulds and move on to more complex multi-piece moulds. Students will have the opportunity to make many types of moulds and try many different techniques under the watchful eye of a master craftsman. The course will conclude with an introduction to slip-casting. The workshop is suitable for artists at all levels of ability.

(12 spaces available) This ten-day workshop focuses on the connection between the food we cook and the pottery we cook and serve it in. The emphasis of the workshop is on repetition, focus, and getting the details right. We will divide our time between the (improvised) bakeshop and the pottery studio, using the philosophy of mindfulness and creativity through practice and repetition. In the kitchen, our focus is on artisan hearth breads. Learn how to improvise a hearth oven in your home oven, and how to mix, ferment, shape, and bake beautiful loaves using simple natural ingredients and time. In the ceramics studio, choose a form (or 2) to practice and develop and delve into the details of scale, weight, proportion, edges, and surface. In between we find the connections between food and pots, how they converse and strengthen each other. The workshop will be punctuated with daily demo’s, tastings and discussions, all intended to make you consider the humble objects you make for daily use and consumption more deeply and fully.
