The Art Department at Wesleyan College, in Macon, Georgia, is seeking a ceramic or printmaking artist for a 3-month fall semester residency from September thru November 2018. The residency is open to emerging and established artists who intend to pursue or create a body of work or special project. A minimum of a BA or BFA in Art should be completed prior to the start of the residency.
The Artist is expected to work within our campus in the spirit of building community. This includes student interaction, visibility as a studio artist mentor, attending our Art Department events, participating in student critiques, giving a public lecture, and exhibiting a body of work in one of our campus venues. The artist will give two workshops as part of the residency.
The Artist can expect to have a set-aside studio space within our spacious studio facilities; however, the studio space will be open to promote student interaction.
Wesleyan College offers:

2018-2019 Year Long Residencies: Applications due April 1, 2018 for residencies beginning August of 2018. Three positions available: two for ceramics, and one for painting, drawing, metals, fibers, or mixed media. Artists with more than one area of expertise and a strong desire to teach are preferred. This residency can be extended an additional year if both the LUX and the artist agree.
Eligibility
MFA or BFA in studio art. Residencies are granted based on quality of work, community-mindedness, and experience. Residents teach a variety of classes to all age levels, so experience teaching is preferred.
Residency Benefits
Studio Access – All residents are entitled to a free studio space (shared or private depending on medium and space available), 24-hour access to the building, and use of equipment in the studio area to which they applied. Ceramics residents have access to regularly stocked clay and glaze materials and use of kilns in exchange for studio maintenance duties. All residents can buy materials from the LUX at cost.
Exhibition Opportunities – All residents are offered exclusive representation in the sales gallery for the duration of their residency. Residents of a year or longer are also given a solo exhibition during one of the final months of their residency. There are also one large and one small experimental gallery where residents can try their hand at curating group exhibitions as well as students and community shows.
Teaching Experience – Residents have priority for paid teaching opportunities including community art classes for youth and adults. Residents with an MFA or BFA in painting, metals or ceramics may have the opportunity to teach college art classes for Doane College-Lincoln campus, held at the LUX.
Materials Stipend – Residents receive an $80 a month stipend that is intended to help purchase art supplies.
Additional Benefits – Residents also receive 30% off artwork and 50% off classes and workshops. Weekly open figure drawing sessions are free for artists-in-residents.

The Salt Spring Arts Council (SSAC) and the Artist in Residence steering committee are pleased to announce the third year of the Artist in Residence (AiR) Program on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.
The Artist in Residence (AiR) Program provides an opportunity for artists to work in the vibrant arts environment of Salt Spring Island. The program is open to all Canadian professionals working in the arts, in any genre or medium, at any stage of their careers. AiR encourages applications from artists of diverse cultural and regional backgrounds. The intent of the program is to provides the time and space for creativity and productivity and introduces visiting artists to Salt Spring Island and its arts community.
Residencies are awarded based on available facilities, potential links to the Salt Spring community, collaborative opportunities and artistic merit.
In the last two years AiR has welcomed Canadian artists living as far away as Thailand and from as close by as Victoria. Their projects have been equally wide ranging and have involved explorations of photography, printmaking, sculpture, painting, beading and curatorial studies. They have shared their work through presentations, workshops, demonstrations and exhibits, enriching our island with their work and ideas, interacting with Salt Spring artists and enjoying our unique island life style.
The AiR program invites artists to ‘Come, share the experience” and engage with the creative cultural community of Salt Spring Island.
Within the spirit of this framework, collaborative proposals by members of the Salt Spring arts community which involve off island artists are actively encouraged.

Red Star Studios continues to host national and international artists through its Artist in Residence program. A residency provides ceramic artists the opportunity to expand their body of work or create a special project that may be outside the scope of their routine studio practice. The residency program gives driven, self-directed artists opportunities for rigorous professional development and enhanced self-sufficiency practices. Within the Red Star community, resident artists engage in constructive dialogue and immerse themselves in their work. Residents foster the development of the studio’s creative environment and create outreach opportunities within the local community. Outreach opportunities include teaching classes or workshops, giving public presentations, and critiques. Through community involvement, residents create educational opportunities for the appreciation and critical understanding of ceramics, thus employing and evolving Red Star Studios as an innovative, artistic resource.

This residency program is open to artists looking to further their artistic and professional careers and gain experience in a working studio environment. In addition to artistic development, residents will learn about the operation of a large studio by contributing to the studio’s daily maintenance. Responsibilities may include mixing glazes, firing kilns, and ensuring the studio is kept neat and orderly.
