greetings from Changchun, the sculpture capital of China﹗
In order to vigorously flourish the world ceramics art
and promote the development of urban ceramics construction, Changchun Municipal
People’s Government has successfully held the 1st Changchun International Ceramics
symposium in 2011, and 12 noted ceramists from 10 countries were accepted and
invited to participate in it and created excellent ceramic works for the city
Changchun, a well-known cultural city in northeast China.
From next late July to mid-August, 2012, Changchun Municipal
People’s Government will hold the 2nd China Changchun International Ceramics
Symposium, with the theme of “Eternal and classic—traveling across history and future”, for further promoting
international cultural exchanges, improving the cultural taste of the city as
well as increasing the city’s international influence and popularity. About 20
ceramists will be accepted to participate in this event.
We sincerely invite you to submit proposals to the 2nd
China Changchun International Ceramics Symposium. We’d like you to:
1. Deliver at
least 3 or more ceramic proposals based on the Symposium’s theme, which are
requested to reflect the theme and the distinctive ethical and regional characteristics
of your country or region. Two of the ceramic proposals should be no less than
80cm (in length) ×80cm(in width) ×80cm (in height) in order to achieve the exhibition effect of the ceramics
symposium.
2.
Specify the materials’ dimensions and colors of the proposed works. Please
deliver A4 size colored design drafts or photographs of maquettes of your
proposals and their digital files in JPEG, BMP or TIF format. The digital photo
should be no less than 1 megabytes.
3.
Fill in the attached registration form and enclose your passport photo, your recent
daily photo and your resume. The digital photo is no less than 1 megabytes. Your
ceramics portfolio is also appreciated.

All the proposals will be carefully reviewed by the
Organizing Committee, extensively evaluated by the public and finally appraised
by celebrated masters.
If any of your proposals gets approved by the Organizing
Committee, you will receive an official invitation to Changchun for creating it
on site from late July to the mid-August, 2012. We will provide you with round-trip
economic flight tickets (only from your residential city to Changchun), an
allowance of 8000 yuan (RMB), free accommodation in Changchun, common
processing tools, assistants and interpreters, as well as honor diplomas. Besides,
some seminars on ceramists’ creation concept and some tours around the city
will be arranged. All the completed ceramics works will be permanently owned
and collected by the institution of Changchun Municipal People’s Government.
The organizing committee will provide ceramists with worksite and following equipments
and materials:
A. Three gas shuttle kilns (1m³/ 0.5m³/ 0.15m³), two electrical kilns (0.35m³/ 0.1m³), and one wood-burning kiln.
B. Potter’s wheels, slab roller,
stoving chest, pugmill.
C. Jilin crock clay, Zibo
earthware clay, Zibo porcelain clay.
D. More than thirty types of
slips, twenty types of glaze and ten types of chemical reagent.
The Organizing Committee is responsible for interpretation of the content
above.

SLOW CRAFT is the theme of the MCC’s 2012 Juried Exhibition
SLOW CRAFT takes as its starting point the issues emerging from the
broader Slow Movement that developed as a response to our increasingly
fast-paced Western lifestyles and our unsustainable consumer culture.
Slowness is often associated with craft. Craft skills take time to
learn; craft processes cannot be rushed. Many makers today are
developing critical positions in response to our consumer behavior,
questioning modes of production through new processes, looking at issues
of stewardship and sustainability as well as collective making and the
reworking of everyday objects. *

SLOW CRAFT will represent approximately 15 craft
artists who reside in Manitoba and whose work pushes the boundaries of
their media and reflects fresh approaches to diverse cultural and
material traditions. Works will be chosen based upon artistic merit
(technical skill, formal effect, and conceptual success), with a
particular interest in pieces that connect to our exhibition’s SLOW
CRAFT theme. Original works (ie. not derived from a pattern or kit)
rooted in traditional approaches to craft and those that encompass new
technologies, are performative, reflect a d-i-y ethic or challenge
preconceived notions of craft are equally welcome.

Eligible works
Works will be selected based on artistic merit, skill, design,
innovation and relationship to the exhibition’s theme. Original work
(functional, decorative, conceptual) in any craft-based media are
welcome (e.g.ceramic, fibre, metal, paper, recycled material, stone,
glass and wood). In addition, mixed media and interdisciplinary works
that are primarily craft-based in material and/or technique are
welcome. Eligible works must have ben completed after July 2009 and may
not have been exhibited in previous Manitoba Craft Council exhibitions.
Three entries per person, maximum. Entrants must be current Manitoba

Images
The jurors will select work based on digital images with the final
selection subject to viewing actual work. MCC urges applicants to
consider using a professional photographer to document your work.
Please submit images by email or on one CD marked with your name. Use
jpeg files with a resolution of 300 dpi, with images’ size approximately
4 x 6″. For each work, submit one image with a full view of the work
and one or two detail views. Please title each image file as follows:
artist’s last name_title_full/detail (eg. Poirier_Moonscape_detail2) The
maximum number of images allowed is nine (9). Discs will not be
returned.
Application
Please include the following information along with your images:
– Your name, mailing address, phone number and email address
– Image list including the title, date, media, dimensions and price/value of each work submitted (3 works max.)
– Artist statement (100 words max.) Please include 2-3 sentences about how your work relates to the exhibition’s theme.
All applicants will be notified of initial results by May 15, 2012.
Final selection will be based on viewing the actual work. Artist fees
will be paid for works selected for the exhibition.

The Yeiser Art Center is now accepting proposals for the Paducah Artist-in-Residence Program. The program is a collaborative effort between the Paducah Arts Alliance and the Yeiser Art Center, working to create a permanent and progressive artist in residence program. The residency space is located at A.I.R. Studio in the heart of LowerTown Paducah, Kentucky.
The program welcomes self-motivated, focused individuals working in a range of traditional and non-traditional visual arts practices. A monthly stipend of $500 is granted to residents, dependent upon length of stay. Housing and studio space are provided. Residencies may range from two weeks up to two months, between April 1, 2012 and March 31, 2013.
Applications are reviewed and selected on a rolling monthly basis until the program is full.

Entry Deadline: October 31, 2012 Dates: January 26 – March 1, 2013
The ACGA National Clay & Glass Exhibition will take place January 26 – March 1, 2013 near Los Angeles at the City of Brea Art Gallery. The exhibition will showcase a wide range of handmade ceramic and glass artwork from across the United States.
The juror is Carol Sauvion, Executive Director of Craft in America, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting the history, practitioners and techniques of craft in the United States, and their impact on our nation’s cultural heritage. The centerpiece of the Craft in America effort is its production of a nationally broadcast documentary series celebrating American craft and the artists who bring it to life. The Peabody Award winning Craft in America series airs nationwide on PBS.
The competition is open to all forms of handmade clay and glass: functional, decorative and sculptural. The deadline for submission is October 31th. The entry fee is $30 for three pieces of artwork. Awards will be given. The online entry form is available at www.acga.net.
The Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California (ACGA) is a non-profit membership organization begun in 1945. It is dedicated to establishing and maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and design in clay and glass.
Eligibility
This competition is open to artists residing in the United States, 18 years or older. Artwork must be composed of at least 75% clay, glass, or a combination of the two, and may be functional or sculptural. All entries must be original and executed by the artist within the past two years. Works may not have been previously shown at the City of Brea Art Gallery.
Awards: First Place $500, Second Place $300, Third Place $200, People’s Choice $100
The non-refundable entry fee is $30 for up to three artworks. Current ACGA members and Brea residents pay $25 for three artworks.

NATIONAL COUNCIL ON EDUCATION FOR THE CERAMIC ART and Santa Fe Community College School of Art and Design’s Visual Arts Gallery joint competition and exhibition.
Santa Fe Community College School of Art and Design’s Visual Arts Gallery will host Ecumene: Global Interface in American Ceramics, a national juried exhibition from August 29, 2012 – September 20, 2012.
NCECA and Santa Fe Community College School of Art and Design’s Visual Arts Gallery are organizing a competitive ceramic exhibition for artists from the United States. Exhibited concurrently with the general session of the International Academy of Ceramics in Santa Fe, this exhibition will showcase contemporary American Ceramics to international leaders in the field of ceramics.
The exhibition is curated and organized by NCECA Exhibitions Director, Linda Ganstrom; Santa Fe Community College School of Art and Design’s Visual Arts Gallery Director, Clark Baughan and Ceramics Head, James Marshall; with Special Guest Curator, Jane Sauer, owner of the Jane Sauer Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Concept
Ecumene: Global Interface in America Ceramics
Current American ceramic practice is part of a larger global dialogue in which artists have access to a tremendous amount of historical and contemporary art information, inspiration and images via the internet, travel opportunities and workshops. This New World of Art is a trans-global cultural movement of which America is a full partner.
Ecumene also refers to the individual practice of artists in selecting the most relevant, appropriate and meaningful elements from this vocabulary to communicate through their art. To be staged concurrently with the International Academy of Ceramics general assembly in New Mexico, Ecumene is intended to survey current America ceramic practice in light of this globalization.
Media & Limitations All works must be primarily ceramic. Mixed media works will be accepted only if ceramic materials are the primary media, although video documentation of projects involving ceramics will be considered. The jurors will make final determinations. Work must fit through a standard door. Floor works must be firmly stable. Wall-mounted pieces are limited to 25 lbs. per section. Works may be hung from the ceiling. Work must have been produced within the last five years and not have been shown in previous NCECA exhibitions. Please do not enter the same work in more than one NCECA exhibition currently open. Artist may be required to install in special circumstances.
