John has been producing ceramics since the age of 12. Almost 30 years later, he opened up his home studio and his studio at the Montebello Design Centre, in Cape Town, to provide a space for experimentation and innovation.
John’s brilliance lies in his mastery of material engineering. Through his mentorship, residents are guided to develop their own distinctive ceramic technologies and discover pathways to scale their production. His philosophy – “embracing the noble catastrophe” -is fertile ground for bold artworks that forage new frontiers.
