Many thanks to the lovely Mel Robson of Feffakookan for bringing my attention to a posting on Bloesem about Hella Jongerius’s new design works in enamel. Rather than copy the quote directly from either the blog or the site I’ll simply encourage you to check them out as they relate to my previous ramblings on globalization and craft practice. Just a bit more to chew on…hope you like.
Just a bit more on globalization…

Hi Carole this is my umpteenth attempt at making contact.Perhaps I am using the wrong password(or are you not approving) .I had sent you a rant vis- a- vis the Global Craft question (which I thought was really interesting and thought provoking) but these lapses in communication have dampened my fervour.
I have to berate you for invading my studio headspace with all of these questions ! I still struggle with the whole idea of crafting in the Twenty first Century, let alone tackling what constitutes Global Craft.
Mel’s Jongerius link was terriffic but the language surrounding it still seems fuzzy to me.
Think Global, Craft Local!
Gerry! So good to hear from you, I’m not sure what’s been up, but I haven’t received any of your other attempts at making contact…i wonder what that’s about? I always approve all comments so that would never be it. I’d still love to hear your thoughts/rant sometime. The more i’m delving into the topic for this panel, the more interesting it’s becoming and the more far reaching in terms of topics to discuss. Mel sent an email today regarding thoughts about communication technology and it’s impact/influence on individual practice and the removal of tactile engagement which was really interesting. I’ll try to get her to post it to the blog.
And as for invading your headspace, sorry, but it’s only fair as I’m still working my way through ideas and thoughts brought up by your thesis!!! (which i still intend on getting back to you about, but still need time for thoughts to properly simmer!)
