WHO we are:
The Color Network launched in December 2018 with a mission to support people of color (POC) in the ceramic arts. The Color Network highlights opportunities in the field and provides an artist database for teachers and curators to reference, helping them to create more diverse programming and exhibitions. We aim to bring increased visibility and foster cross-generational connections between ceramic artists of color.
WHY donate:
In partnership with our fiscal sponsor, Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, The Color Network was recently awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the development our mentorship program .
Your generous support will enable us to meet both our matching funds requirement for the NEA grant and help support futures expenses associated with our ongoing initiatives, which have included:
• Highlighting POC artists on our website and social media
• Providing artists of color with financial assistance to ship work
• Establishing an emerging curatorial fellowship for people of color
• Curating exhibitions with diverse artist representation
• Providing free portfolio & application reviews to artists of color
• Partnering with community organizations to create scholarships for POC artists
The Color Network is managed by a small group of artist volunteers, and although we’re proud of what has been accomplished in just a few short years (with very limited resources), there’s still much more work to be done. Please help us continue to grow and expand The Color Network’s impact in the ceramics community.
Show your support today by making a tax-deductible donation and/or sharing this fundraising campaign with your network.
THANK YOU!!

NOTE: As we are not currently a nonprofit, all donations will be processed through our fiscal sponsor, Watershed Center For The Ceramic Arts, enabling your contribution to The Color Network to remain tax-deductible.

Watershed’s summer sessions provide time and space for
small groups of up to 15 artists to step away from their daily routines,
immerse themselves in their work, and make new connections within the
clay community. During a residency, artists work independently in our
large communal studio. Most of the summer sessions are organized by
artists—who propose a theme related to clay and recruit four to eight
other artists to join them. The balance of participants in a session
(seven to ten more artists) register here on our website, drawn by a
shared interest in the session theme. Once in residence, all of the
session’s artists work side-by-side in the Watershed studios.
During a summer session, you will have unlimited time to work and
dialog in the studio alongside other artists-in-residence, along with 3
delicious meals a day, and comfortable accommodations in shared or
private housing. When reviewing session options, consider choosing a
theme that resonates with you, whether you want to delve more deeply
into that focus or follow your own path of inquiry once you are here.
Watershed residencies are filled on a first-come, first served
basis. Simply fill out the registration form and submit your deposit.
Visit our housing and fees page
to review the costs of attending a residency. Please note that all
artists are required to live on campus during a session. For those
interested in applying for merit-based or need-based financial aid, the yearly application deadline is February 15 with awards announced in mid-March.
View details on their website on each of our 2017 summer sessions and register early to reserve your spot.

Entry Fee (Salad Days Residency Application): $25.00
The Salad Days Artist-in-Residence at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts is commissioned to produce 550 plates from indigenous earthenware for the Center’s annual Salad Days fundraising event – a community festival featuring locally sourced foods that draws hundreds of guests every year.
Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts is a small art residency center
located in mid-coast Maine. During the summer and fall months, artists
from across the country and beyond attend residencies at the Center that
vary in length from 1 to 6 weeks. During this time, artists live and
work alongside one another, sharing a large open-concept studio,
enjoying communal meals, and living on campus in shared or private
housing. The Salad Days artist holds a unique position at the Center,
with a focus on creating plates for Watershed’s largest fundraiser of
the year.
The artist is selected by a jury in late winter prior to their residency
and resides at Watershed for four to six months (typically between
mid-May and mid-September), producing plates for the following year’s
Salad Days. During the residency, the Salad Days artist receives housing
in a private room, all meals, a large studio, free materials and
firings, and a stipend of $500.
Watershed provides opportunities for the Salad Days artist to sell work
at events and to exhibit in group shows. Salad Days artist plates gain
broad exposure being featured both in Watershed print and online
publications, and in local and regional press and advertisements.
To apply, please answer the following questions and submit 10 images of
your work. Include at least one image of a plate you have made.
