call for entry: Northeast Ceramic Sculpture Exhibition 2015

All Northeast-based artists (including students studying in the
Northeast or from the Northeast) are invited to submit ceramic sculpture
(and mixed media which is primarily ceramic) to the Northeast Ceramic
Sculpture Exhibition between June 15th and September 15th, 2015. Works will be selected by juror and ceramic artist, Tim Rowan, and an Opening Reception will be held on November 7th, 2015.



Application fee: $35 for 3 images. You may submit 3
images of 3 separate works, or you can use your extra spaces for detail
images of one work. If you would like to submit more than 3 images you
may apply more than once.

Delivering
(or shipping) and insuring artworks
in transit are the sole responsibility of the artist. Adequate
packaging and return postage are required for any shipped works.

Size limitation:
No longer than 36 inches in any dimension. Work meant to hang on a wall must be ready to hang.

Sponsored Awards
will be presented at the Opening Reception on November 7th.
A 25% sales commission will go to Art Centro for the sale of any work.

gallery space, classroom/meeting space, 11 private art studios and a
ceramics studio. Art Centro offers ceramics, painting, and drawing

Matthew Harris & Tim Rowan exhibition at Erskine, Hall & Coe

Matthew Harris & Tim Rowan exhibition opens on Wednesday,
the 20th of February and runs through the 20th of March 2013.  This
exhibition aims to explore the fascinating interplay between mixed media
on paper and ceramics by offering an exceptional selection of 24 new
works on paper by Matthew Harris and nearly 40 ceramic sculptures by Tim
Rowan.

Matthew
Harris has focused his art to textiles and for the past ten years has
made and exhibited drawings and works on paper.  He is based in Stroud
and continues to make work that is concerned with abstract imagery and
the translation of drawn marks into cloth, achieved by a process of
dying, cutting and hand stitching.  Tim Rowan comes from New York and
currently works in the Hudson Valley.  He produces boxes, bowls and
sculptures in woodfired stoneware and native clay.

The
show invites viewers to explore the relationship between the stunning
work of these artists, and will be open to visitors Monday through
Saturday, 10:00am – 6:00pm.  There is no admission fee to attend our
show.

Internationally recognized wood fired artist Peter Callas to lecture in Bakersville

On July 7 at 5pm Crimson Laurel Gallery will host a lecture by internationally recognized ceramic sculptor Peter Callas at the Historic Mitchell County Courthouse in downtown Bakersville, NC. The lecture will include an overview of Peter’s 40 year career, his 23 year collaboration with Peter Voulkos and a discussion of “Serendipity: An International Exhibition of Wood Fired Sculptural Ceramics” that opens on July 1. Andrew Glasgow, the retired executive director of the American Craft Council, will introduce Peter and offer opening remarks.

“Serendipity: An International Exhibition of Wood Fired Sculptural Ceramics” will feature fourteen artists from five countries and also includes a functional element that features eight exceptional wood fired ceramic artists . This exhibition is curated by Asheville NC sculptor Eric Knoche. Eric’s goal for this exhibition is to present a group of artists from across the spectrum of wood fired sculptural ceramics never before seen in this part of the world. He is particularly interested in how various artists have adapted the wood fired patina to their own sculptural work.
The sculptural artists included in this exhibition include Ted Adler, Mary Bowron, Joy Brown, Peter Callas, Jason Hess, Eric Knoche, Tim Rowan, Mat Rude and Jeff Shapiro from the United States, Neil Hoffman from Australia, Nina Hole and Ann-Charlotte Ohlson from Denmark, Koichiro Isezaki from Japan and Michal Puszczynski from Poland. The functional artists include Chris Campbell, JD Jorgenson, Lucien Koonce, Simon Levin, John Martelle, Dan Murphy, Tara Wilson and Shumpei Yamaki.
