Two opportunities at Lillstreet Art Centre in Chicago

First up: A Residency Opportunity

Lillstreet’s resident artist program was established to benefit the Lillstreet student community, as well as the Artist-in-Residence. The residents in each of our departments dedicate time to work with students outside of classes in order to enrich Lillstreet students’ experience by seeing and learning from a working artist in their midst.

The Artist-in-Residence Program also serves as a resource for our teachers by asking the Artist-in-Residence to assist from time to time with classes and demonstrations. This program is meant to help bolster the vitality of the student community and create relationships with the students. The main focus of this residency is for the artist to be an encouragement and resource for the Lillstreet student community as well as provide an opportunity for artists to develop their work.

Andrew will discuss different approaches for designing prototypes and making molds, how to formulate slip specific to your needs, and explore how the workshop can initiate new directions in your work. Students should come with questions and ready to stretch their skill, knowledge, and experience. It will be possible to accomplish making one complex mold and/or several small molds. MNNICE

Exhibition RunsOctober 21 – November 13 Many people are familiar with Minnesota’s strong tradition of functional clay, which developed with acclaimed potter Warren Mackenzie in the early 1950’s. But as the master never could have imagined, an enormous and diverse community of artists, teachers, students, and collectors have emerged from the foundation that he built. Our Minnesota Nice exhibition presents a fine selection of work that illustrates the continually evolving and expanding group of clay artists working in the region, including: Judith Altobell, Margaret Bohls, Richard Bresnahan, Bob Briscoe, Lisa Buck, Linda Christianson, Kelly Connole, Dick Cooter, Guillermo Cuellar, Gary Erickson, Jil Franke, Peter Jadoonath, Sam Johnson, Maren Kloppmann, Warren Mackenzie, Keisuke Mizuno, Mika Negishi Laidlaw, Mike Norman, Jeff Oestreich, Donovan Palmquist, Kristin Pavelka, Irene Saito, Pete Scherzer, Jo Severson, Jason Trebs, and Sue Warner. Please join us for a reception on

Friday, November 4, 6-8 p.m.
