European Ceramic Workcentre Netherlands
The European Ceramic Workcentre in the Netherlands offers opportunities for artists, designers and architects to explore the technical and artistic possibilities of ceramics. Applications are being accepted for their 2010 residency program.
As an artist-in-residence centre, the .ekwc annually welcomes about 44 artists, designers an architects to experiment with ceramics for a continuous or phased period of three months.
The .ekwc does not only offer studios, workplaces, the most advanced equipment and living space, but also the support of a team of specialists. This team gives a unique added value to the residency as 75% of the participants have no or little experience with ceramics. Intensive guidance allows the participants to realize their prearranged work plans.
The residency is concluded with a final presentation.
Containment… A Group Exhibition of Ceramic Boxes
From their website: “The idea of an exhibition of boxes is not a new one by any means. It is, however, an important one for the ceramic art collector. It is an opportunity to participate in a collecting tradition that has very deep roots. Ceramic art boxes have been collected and coveted throughout the centuries. From ancient Egypt to modern times the lure of a lidded vessel seems to reach across cultural and geographical boundaries. Their almost seductive nature invites us to question what is concealed, everyday objects, or someone’s most cherished memories. For this exhibition we have invited select artists from across the country to interpret the box form. Each artist will bring to the project his or her own distinct method of surface design and construction. We invite you to consider the possibilities of this timeless art form and what might be contained within. Participating artists include Leanne Ash, William Baker, Hayne Bayless, Nicholas Bivins, Jason Burnett, Melisa Cadell, Kyle Carpenter, Julie Covington, David Crane, Susan Fagan, Marty Fielding, Becca Floyd, Erik Haagensen, Kent Harris, Bryan Hopkins, Shawn Ireland, Peter Karner, Ani Kasten, Jennifer Kincaid, Jeff Kleckner, Michael Kline, Eric Knocke, Ryan McKerley, Brooke Noble, Ronan Kyle Peterson, Rob Pulleyn, Emily Reason, Lindsay Rogers, Jenny Lou Sherburne, Liz Summerfield, Joy Tanner and Jerilyn Virden.”
Call to Artists: Public Art Competition, Red Deer
Deadline for Submission of Interest: March 29
Submissions of Interest are being accepted for the installation of three significant large scale works of art for the G.H. Dawe Centre.
Project 1: The west-side wall along the new main entrance of the building is approximately 12m in length. The artwork here could be a mural, mosaic, low relief sculpture, etc. This $107,200.00 public art project will be an artist designed installation or sculpture.
Project 2: This 3.5m in diameter site is located at the west end of the interior mall and is outside the main entrance of the Red Deer public library, Dawe branch. The City of Red Deer has deemed this site suitable for an artist led collaborative freestanding artwork, created with the RDPL patrons and/or students from St. Patrick’s and G.H. Dawe Community schools. This $33,400.00 public art project will be an artist designed installation or sculpture.
Project 3: This site encompasses a long curving exterior wall to the pool and gym areas. Total length of this wall is 43.3m and is broken up with a series of large paneled glass windows. It could be suitable for a glass/window treatment (visibility must be maintained) or a mural, etc. This $33,400.00 public art project will be an artist designed installation or sculpture.
Artwork for all three project sites will be of durable fabrication and resistant to vandalism and other associated concerns inherent to a large public facility and all should reflect the themes of this unique complex: education and learning, recreation, fitness and healthy lifestyles.
Submissions of Interest should include:
– Letter of Interest
– Qualifications and/or Resume
– Photos/slides/DVD of up to 20 images
– Description (if available) of previous projects and/or commissions
– Note: Please do not submit renderings/maquettes for your proposal at this stage
Deadline for Submission of Interest is March 29. The selected artists/art groups will be notified (by letter or phone) with the Terms of References by April 30.

EMMA LAKE RESIDENCY PROGRAM–UNIV OF SASKATCHEWAN
Visual artists, performance artists, musicians, composers, critics, curators, arts administrators, designers and writers are invited to apply to the Residency Program. The program has been designed to provide work space, accommodation and meals in a retreat environment where participants can work independently on their own project(s) for a time period of one to five weeks depending on availability (not all consecutive). The program also features an invited artist in residence whenever possible. The artist in residence is invited to work independently and is not required to provide formal instruction to residency participants. The opportunity will be available for creative interaction during social and serendipitous occasions (see Invited Artists In Residence).
