DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: JUNE 30, 2010 BY 5 PM
Eligibility: Open to professional artists who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents With the ongoing generosity of Ms. Winifred Shantz and RBC Foundation, the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery present these prestigious national awards for early career practicing glass and ceramic artists that have been working professionally for between 5 to 10 years. Intended to allow the artist to undertake a period of independent research, or other activities with the capacity to advance their artistic and professional practice at a key moment in the artist’s career, winners of the RBC Award for Glass receive $7,000 and winners of the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics receive $10,000. The selection panels are comprised of experienced contemporary glass and ceramic artists and curators. A jury of respected artists and professionals associated with the silica arts will choose a finalist list. This year’s winners will be announced at a gala event on September 16, 2010. To apply to either of these awards, you must be a Canadian citizen or have Permanent Resident status, as defined by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. You must also meet the definition of a professional artist. The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery and the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics is accessible to Aboriginal artists and artists of diverse cultural and regional communities of Canada. Student Scholarships for CRITICAL Santa Fe
DEADLINE JUNE 30, 2010

NCECA is pleased to announce the availability of student scholarships for participation in the CRITICAL Santa Fe Symposium to be held October 27 – 30, 2010. These awards are open to NCECA Members who are full-time undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate students enrolled at an accredited college, university or art institute in the U.S. at the time of the application deadline. There is no age limit. Anyone who has received a major grant or fellowship is not eligible. Applications are to be supported by one (1) letter of recommendation written by a ceramics teacher who has taught the student, along with a 200 – 300 word statement of intent. A maximum of four $250 awards may be made. The selection committee includes the NCECA Student Director At Large, an NCECA Director at Large and a third ceramic artist.

Known for his familiar imagery and often humorous sculptures in clay and bronze, Victor Cicansky is one of Western Canada’s most celebrated artists. His distinctive work, which pays homage to Saskatchewan’s agricultural heritage and daily life, has been exhibited in art galleries across Canada and abroad. He has been an ardent defender and promoter of his fellow artists, and has lent his support and expertise to various arts boards and galleries, notably the Mackenzie Art Gallery and the Susan Whitney Gallery in Regina. A teacher and mentor, he has helped to perpetuate his craft by inspiring generations of young artists.
