Benefit Auction for Ian Jones and Moraig McKenna

For those who may not have heard, the house and gallery of Ian Jones and Moraig McKenna were destroyed by fire last month. Ian worked at Sturt Pottery as Artist in Residence in 2000 and was an exhibitor at the Sturt Woodfire Conference in 2008. Ian’s work is represented in the Sturt Permanent Collection and a number of his pieces are available for purchase through Sturt Gallery.

As many of you will be aware, the online auction represents a selection of the wonderful ceramic work donated for the benefit sale. Many additional pieces will be available from the one-day exhibition at

A juried cup exhibition embraces a wide spectrum of cup forms both sculptural and utilitarian.

• The Show is open to all artists who are residents of and working in the United States.
• All work is expected to be predominately made in clay.
• All work accepted must be available for sale during the exhibition.
• Each piece of work is limited to 15 pounds and must not exceed 30 inches in all dimensions.
• Work entered should not be so fragile that shipment or public display is potentially harmful to the work or the viewer.
• Work must be properly prepared and presented for display.
• Accepted work which differs significantly from the application will be disqualified.

The non-refundable processing fee for applying electronically by November 1, 2011 is $25.00, payable online at the time you fill out the application at https://www.callforentry.org
Each entrant may submit up to three (3) pieces of work with one digital image per piece for consideration by the juror. Images must be of current work and representative of work the artist plans to exhibit at the show.

5Th Annual South Texas Ceramics Showdown

A two-day ceramics workshop takes place June 10 and 11 at STC’s Pecan Campus Art Building Ceramics Lab, Room 113. Art talks will take place Saturday, July 11 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the same location. All this is free of charge.
Participants will see clay demonstrations and art talks by nationally recognized and distinguished ceramicists Ovidio Giberga and Paul Northway. Both artists’ work references and expresses personal ideas of identity, time and place. Also an exhibition of student work from regional campuses will be on display for a month.

Arts Journey Ceramic exhibition call for entries.

The Eastern Cape branch of Ceramics Southern Africa will be curating an exhibition of ceramics at the restored Athenaeum building in Port Elizabeth. This exhibition will run alongside the 200 Artists Exhibition. The launch of the book of the same name will take place at the opening on 17th June 2011.

The Arts Journey is an initiative incorporating numerous Art venues which will be staging exhibitions as part of the National Arts Festival Fringe Programme. Entry form can be downloaded here
