The Anderson Ranch Artists’ Residency Program is designed to foster creative, intellectual and personal growth for emerging and established visual artists. There are no specific educational qualifications for entry into the program. Awards will be made to those, who in the exclusive opinion of the jury, have submitted the best work by the application deadline. Finalists are chosen on the basis of artistic merit by an independent jury of established working artists and will live and work at Anderson Ranch for approximately a ten week residency period. While in residence, all artists will share in an established community of interaction, conceptual development and intense production of work. Given the staffing and facilities available at the Ranch, its artist residency program will become one of the most robust programs of its type in the United States. Applications for both residency terms must be submitted via our online application by February 1 each year. Sturt Craft Centre invites applications from experienced craft practitioners to the Sturt Artist-in-Residence program. Residencies occur in the disciplines of ceramics, jewellery, textiles, wood, photography and writing. Four to six residencies occur at Sturt each year.
From late 2009, Sturt widened the focus of its residency program to encourage small scale production and individually designed work which will be promoted through Sturt Gallery. Each year, four professional residencies will be awarded to applicants specifically to develop a body of work which can be produced and made at Sturt, during the Residency time. Sturt sees the residency program as an important adjunct to its overall aim of support for Australian contemporary craft and design through a program of teaching, retail, exhibition and residencies. The emphasis of the residency program will be to support craftspeople and designer-makers who are sympathetic to this philosophy. All Residency Programs are assisted financially from Friends of Sturt, a volunteer support group which meets regularly to help with events at Sturt, produces a newsletter and raises money through its membership fees. Artist in Residence Program Summary The Artist in Residence (AIR) program is a one- to three-year appointment allowing emerging professional artists to work in the environment of the Craft Center. Each studio (clay, fibers, glass, metals and wood) has an Artist in Residence with a BFA, MFA or professional equivalent. There is also a residency position for the exhibitions program. The AIR program has a competitive application process to fill these six positions.
Our Artists in Residence come from all over the country and abroad to live and work at the Craft Center. These individuals are invaluable to the educational programs of the Craft Center providing additional expertise and experiences to our students.

West Virginia University has a unique linkage with the famed Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute. They have teamed to offer a study and travel program in the Peoples Republic of China where students will have the opportunity to study with some of China’s most prominent teachers and ceramic artists. China’s roots in ceramic art history are strong and deep. For thousands of years, Chinese artisans have developed and mastered techniques and artistry that has set the standard of excellence in ceramics throughout the world. High fired porcelains, underglaze and overglaze techniques, celadons, copper reds, temmoku, yaoware carving, ash glazes and tri-colored lead glazes are just a few of the contributions made by Chinese artisans over the centuries.

The Ceramics Studio supports artists in the Visual Arts Creative Residencies program. Proposals for ceramics-based projects are accepted from artists applying for Creative Residencies. The Ceramics Studio offers an exceptional opportunity to work in a generous studio environment, with access to a broad range of equipment designed to support most aspects of contemporary ceramic practice. We are in close proximity to other studio areas such as sculpture, painting, printmaking, photography, and the Digital Film and Media Production department. Access to these facilities is possible through consultation with relevant facility supervisors. Interaction and collaboration with artists in these areas and others is encouraged as part of a residency experience, and our expert staff will do their best to help facilitate your projects. Please consult with the ceramics facilitator to determine the needs for your project at least two weeks prior to your arrival in Banff. For more information contact:
