Our Artist in Residence program benefits the artist, the Center, and the local community!

We
believe that our connection to the community is strengthened by
supplying a venue for talented artists to integrate with, and become
members of the Sonoma community. For six months our Artist in Residence
provides community members and visitors with a fresh perspective on the
Sonoma Valley.

One Artist in Residence will be chosen to spend
six months living and working at the Sonoma Community Center. During
this time, the Artist in Residence is able to concentrate on developing a
cohesive body of work that is representative of their time here. While
at Sonoma Community Center, the Artist in Residence is given employment
opportunities to teach classes and workshops to community members. 

Open
to all artists living within the US, the residency provides a
self-directed emerging or established artist a supportive environment to
explore artwork and ideas. The opportunity is designed for artists
dedicated to developing a body of work with a specific purpose of end
goal, culminating in a gallery exhibition at the completion of the
residency.

WORK TRADE: 
As resident
artists are given a number of opportunities, they are expected, in turn,
to provide up to 15 hours a week in work trade. Work trade
responsibilities can include, but are not limited to: studio clean-up
and maintenance; kiln loading, firing and maintenance; mixing glazes;
and other studio-related duties as assigned by management.

STARworks Clay Studio Program Director
STARworks
Center in Star NC is currently seeking a Clay Program Director.  She/he
is responsible for the overall creative and artistic direction and
management of STARworks’ new (and still developing) Ceramic Artist
Residency Programs. 
Requirements:
• Masters degree in ceramics or a combination of education and experience
• Professional experience in artist residencies, public art programs, or public practice programs
• Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated and ability to work independently and within a team
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Some travel required
• Available weekends and evenings
Other related duties as assigned.
Compensation:
This is a full time, exempt salaried position with generous paid time
off, holidays and 403(b) contribution plan. STARworks is an equal

STARworks Clay Studio Artist in Residence Program
We
are currently accepting applications for residency positions of one to
six months duration.  The duration depends on the proposal submitted by
the artist and the available studio space. Available dates start in
September 2015 and run through May 2016.
The STARworks
Residency is for ceramic artists who are at a crucial stage in their
career and require an opportunity to experiment, refine and formalize
studio practices are encouraged to apply. Residents are encouraged to
use their time to push personal, professional, technical and conceptual
limits.
Residents will be provided with
subsidized housing, studio space and up to 500 pounds of STARworks
Ceramics clay bodies each month in exchange for assistance with studio
maintenance and helping with events, workshops and occasional teaching
responsibilities.
Our facilities allow for
large workshop spaces placed side by side, supporting a collaborative
and energetic educational environment. The space allows for six or seven
generous studios at one time for residents and visiting artists,
serving to inspire a creative studio atmosphere and perpetuate an
elevated commitment to ceramic craft and art.  

 

Artist In Residence – Midwestern State University – Ceramics Department

Dates of Residency: August 15, 2015 through August 15, 2016 (one year minimum, with the possibility of one year renewal)

Application Deadline: Position is open until filled. Priority is given to applications received by Saturday, August 1, 2015.

This self-directed residency is designed to provide a ceramic artist
with university based studio access, as they make the transition from or
between academic settings. Furthermore, the program is intended to
allow a resident the time and space to pursue a body of work in a
creative and energetic environment, while enhancing the art program at
Midwestern State University. The accepted artist will participate within
the ceramics area as an informal collaborator and mentor for students,

Midwestern will provide:
• All materials and firing
• A small office with internet access and storage space
• Studio space in the common 4000 square foot studio area
• 24-hour/7 days per week access

• Most university privileges as given to full time faculty (access to
the workout facility, reserved parking ($50), library access, etc.)

• A small-furnished apartment located at a private residence three
miles from MSU with utilities paid including Wi-Fi (details to be
discussed during the interview process).
• A minimum stipend of $6000 per year

• The possibility of teaching one Ceramics for Non-Majors course per
semester as an adjunct professor, at $2,500 per course (if the course
enrolls 10 students)
• The possibility of a solo exhibition (details to be discussed during the interview process)

The Resident Artist:

• Will be responsible for 10 hours per week of studio management and
maintenance (including but not limited to the following: loading and
unloading kilns, clay inventory, mixing clay, mixing glaze and firing
kilns, and facilitating the making of bowls for the Wichita Falls Empty
Bowls event . . . The studio made over 1,000 bowls and raised $86,000 in
2015)
• Will teach one continuing education wheel-throwing course per semester

• Will teach one ceramics for non-majors class per semester if the
course makes enrollment of 10 students (It has made enrollment for the
fall semester of 2015)
• Will attend opening receptions and special events
• Will be responsible for all non-ceramic related expenses aside from accommodation
• Will help set up and work the Mother’s Day Ceramic Sale
• Will help fire the wood kiln once per semester
• Will give one public lecture on her/his work
• Will donate one piece for the permanent collection of MSU

• Three large electric kilns
• Large Brent slab roller
• Two extruders
• Three pugmills
• Soldner mixer
• Separate well equipped glaze room
• Spray booth
• Materials and clay mixing/storage room

5,000 square foot covered kiln yard with the following:
• Two 40 cubic foot computer-controlled Geil car kilns
• A 30 cubic foot “fast fire” wood kiln
• Two older updraft kilns
• A 30 cubic foot downdraft soda kiln
• A 3 cubic foot updraft test kiln

Access, by permission, to the following studios:
• Painting
• Sculpture
• Metals
• Printmaking
• 24 station Adobe Suite equipped Mac lab with large format printers

Requirements: An MFA in ceramics is required as there is a
probability/possibility for teaching a university level core course. All
applicant reviews will be based on portfolio review and individual
merit.

residency opportunity: c.r.e.t.a. Rome

Just a few more days to apply for an artist residency this fall at c.r.e.t.a. rome.  The deadline for applications is 15 May.  There are 6-week residency periods from 14 August through 23 September,  25 September through 4 November and 6 November through 16 December. We offer self-funded artist residencies for
ceramicists and visual artists for periods of 4, 6 to 12 weeks
(in set periods, see the dates on our web-site). The cost for 6-weeks is €3000, €2000 for 4 weeks. Firing and materials are not included.

In the center of Rome, the residency fee covers a
semi-private equipped studio, housing in the historical center of Rome,
and technical assistance in procuring materials, etc., advice on
museums, galleries and sites in Rome and beyond. We have two electric kilns in the studio, one for low-fire and the other for high-fire. Artists have the
opportunity to focus on their art, whether it be creating a new body of
work, expanding a well-established oeuvre or allowing themselves to draw
inspiration from their surroundings and the centuries of culture that
define the eternal city. In addition, they will have access to the
wealth of galleries and exhibitions in Rome and beyond. There is also a final group exhibition of works produced during the residency period.
In the case of the residency in
the countyside near Bracciano, the residency fee covers acommodation in a
1-bedroom house and a private studio. We use the second ceramic studio plus the garden area. This option is
particularly attractive for ceramic artists who work with reduction
firing and/or collaborative projects or those who wish to bring a
spouse/companion and or their family. There
is a supplementary fee for family and/or collaborators. The house is
2.5km from the nearest train station with regular train service to Rome.
We also provide a couple of bikes.
The house in the countryside
is really
lovely and great if you are looking for some tranquility and also
reduction firing. We have a 150lt. electric kiln for low-fire plus a
smaller 60lt. high-fire electric kiln. In addition, we have several
lustre and raku gas kilns there plus a 500lt. gas iln for larger pieces.
The work produced in this residency will also been shown in the final group show in our studio in the center of Rome.
