GREG PAYCE

Opening Saturday, Aug 22
Opening Thursday, Sept 3. 6-8pm
Yuill Family Gallery @Medalta

Greg
Payce’s Continuum is an exciting new experience for Medalta. In
addition to his early work in our gallery, projections and other
experimental works of his will be found throughout Medalta’s historic
spaces.

Artist Statement
This exhibition presents works from the first thirty-five or so years of
my practice.  It shows chronologically, how I began making ceramics as a
kid and continued on making them through my K-12 education, my post-
secondary education, and my early teaching career. Greg Payce -continuum is a prequel to the work being shown concurrently in Greg Payce -Palimpsest  at the Esplanade Gallery, which showcases the last fifteen or so years of my fifty-plus years in the medium.

The
fact that I was able to actually start making and developing my
ceramics at an early age is a testament to strong dedication, education
and mentoring from a range of people including my family, friends,
teachers, professors, colleagues, and community mentors.

Silverman’s inspiration for this piece. After the talk, join us for the

Closing Reception for GLAZED & DIFFUSED

This survey exhibition focuses on a select group of international

abstract content. Their sculpture, vessels, tile, and site-specific
installations reveal intended, abstract results using fluidity,
abstraction, & color theory.

Play, Precarity and Survival @ aceartinc

 Jul 30 – Aug 22

Opening reception July 30, 2015 7pm
aceartinc, 290 McDermot Avenue
Exhibition continues July 31-August 22, 2015
Curated by Sigrid Dahle, featuring work by Marcel Dzama, Seema Goel, Rachael Kroeker, Jeannie Mah, Monica Mercedes Martinez, and Brendan Tang.
This group exhibition includes artists who consciously use ceramic
history, material properties and studio and/or commercial production
processes to playfully and incisively explore, resist and/or perform
unmoored contemporary identities. How are ever-evolving,
cross-generational im/migrant experiences, colonial narratives and
hybridized identities – what we customarily call ‘globalization’ –
enacted in and through the vibrant discourse that is 21st century
ceramics? What is it about this medium that renders it so amenable to
supporting these timely and compelling investigations? Explore these
questions and more when Play, Precarity and Survival opens this July.
