Call for submissions – From the Ground Up XXV

The Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces and the Las Cruces Museum of Art are seeking submissions for the regional juried ceramic exhibition, “From the Ground Up XXV.”

The call for submissions is open to ceramic artists from the Rocky Mountain region of the United States (New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho) and the deadline for submission is April 8.

Artists may submit up to four entries that were completed within the past three years.
The submission fee for one to four entries is $30 and is payable to “Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces.”

7th International Biennale of Ceramics, Inside Out, presented by the City of Kapfenberg, Austria

Open to all artistic forms of expression concerning the use of ceramics – with the exclusion of china, serially manufactured objects and ceramic design. A maximum of three works are allowed to be entered to the competition. The works must not exceed the age limit of two years and they have to correspond to the motto of the Biennale of Ceramics 2011. Only works that have never been entered to take part at any other competition are accepted. The dimensions of the objects entered have to be of reasonable size, height and weight. In other words, an exhibition at the gallery of the Cultural Center should not take extraordinary efforts for the should not take extraordinary efforts for the organizers. Digital photographs of the works are required. Please take the pictures in front of neutral background. The photographs have to be sent via CD ROM, DVD or USB Stick. A resolution of at least 300dpi is required. Please take the pictures of each work from at least two different angles and name it with the exact title. To enter the competition/exhibition of the 7th Biennale of Ceramics the Cultural Center of Kapfenberg requires a package of the following data:

  • The filled out application form.
  • The list of works entered.
  • The digital photographs of the works entered.

International call for ceramic artists: 31st Concurs Internacional de Ceramica De L’Alcora 2011


The Town Council of L’Alcora, announces its call for entries for the 31st Concurs Internacional de Ceramica De L’Alcora 2011, organised by a Commission designated to that effect. All participants are entitled to present a maximum of two works of art created with ceramic materials, which must be original and unique. Entries created by non ceramic procedures, works of an industrial nature or those who have entered in another competitions will not be admitted. Works must not exceed 2 metres long in any of their dimensions. Entries not measuring 30 cm long or wide will not be accepted. Entries must be sent to the Secretaría del Concurso (Museo de Cerámica, C/ Teixidors, 5 – E12110 L’Alcora · Spain) before April 30th, 2010. All entries must include a properly completed application form, and the author or authors’ curriculum vitae. Registration will be able by e-mail museu@alcora.org, also attaching the curriculum vitae. A maximum of three images with neutral background (either printed or in jpg format -200 dpi minimum) must be attached to each work of art. The jury will be made up of renowned experts from the world of ceramics. Members will be made public once their final verdict has been announced. Finalist entries must be sent to the L’Alcora Ceramics Museum before May 8th, 2011. Those works who break this term will be excluded from the competition. Emmanuel College Summer Artist Residency in Ceramics with stipend, Massachusetts

Emmanuel College, located in Boston, Massachusetts, is now accepting applications for the 2011 Summer Artist Residency Program. Approximate date of residency – mid. June to mid. August. Please apply to one of the following categories: Ceramics, Photography, Printmaking, or Social Justice (any media related in some way to issues of social justice.) Up to a $2000 stipend is provided for all travel and residency costs.
Artists have 24-hour access to studios and are provided with on campus living quarters and a small, shared kitchen. Artists are responsible for their meals. All artists are required to donate one piece of artwork to the college’s art collection at the end of the residency.

Resident artists will participate in Contemporary Art and Artistic Practice, an art history course offered to students during the summer residency. Artists will be required to devote three hours of a mutually agreed upon time to discussions about their own artistic practice with students enrolled in this course. The course focuses on the theories and methodologies that inform current contemporary art trends as they relate to the four Emmanuel College artists in residence.

Also, all artists are required give an on campus demo/lecture of their work to Emmanuel students during the 2011-2012 academic year. The date will be coordinated with the faculty member in each area. Artists are responsible for their travel and lodging during this visit.

A visa is required for international artists. Emmanuel College will support a J1 visa for international artists.

Designer Maker West Midlands Mentoring scheme

Designer Maker West Midlands (DMWM) is looking for three mid-career designer makers for ‘Future Forward 2’ a creative and market development programme.

Future Forward 2 is the second phase of an exciting mentoring programme tailored to the needs of mid-career designer makers from the West Midlands region. It offers mid-career designer makers (the mentees) the opportunity to be mentored by an arts professional who has knowledge and experience of designer makers practices and market opportunities. The aim is to support the artistic development, advance the quality of work and the ability to access new marketing opportunities of the selected mid-career designer maker.

The intention is for the mentor and mentee to work together to assist the mentee to develop their practice; making new work of artistic quality and to exhibit or engage with a project which will raise their profile regionally, nationally and/or internationally. The programme will provide focused discussion and regular one to one support (approx 9 x ½ days) from an experienced mentor over a period of 9-10 months.

The mentees will be awarded a bursary of £2100 for materials, promotion, marketing, travel expenses and will be expected to give a presentation at dissemination DMWM event.
