This exhibition is open to all ceramic artists over the age of 18 who currently reside in the Central Time Zone. Central Time Zone states include: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin; however not all counties within these states are within the Central Time Zone. Artists who reside in areas of Canada and Mexico that are within the Central Time Zone are also eligible. Artwork submitted must have been completed within the last three years. All forms of ceramic expression are encouraged. Entry fee of $35 for up to three entries or $50 for five entries

DEC 15th Deadline
The Woskob Family Gallery is delighted to announce an open call for the upcoming exhibition Tiny Acts Topple Empires. The exhibition will be curated by guest curator Heather Darcy Bhandari.
Bhandari invites artists to consider the manifold expressions of rebellion, and how they might be manifested in contemporary art. The exhibition takes its title from a quote in a 2004 essay by Danusha Goska, in which she writes, “when we study the biographies of our heroes, we learn that they spent years in preparation, doing tiny, decent things before one historical moment propelled them to center stage and used them to tilt empires.” The curator will consider work that engages with all types of rebellion: formal, material, political, and otherwise. Artworks engaging with notions of rupture, disruption, and change are sought. The works selected will be on display at the Woskob Family Gallery in downtown State College, PA from March 29 – June 2, 2018.
Heather Darcy Bhandari is a New York City-based curator, writer, and arts advocate. Her book Art/Work, written with Jonathan Melber, will be published in its second edition by Free Press this month. Bhandari was a Director at Mixed Greens gallery in New York City from 2000 to 2016 before becoming Director of Exhibitions at Smack Mellon in Brooklyn, New York. Bhandari is currently developing independent curatorial projects, teaches at Brown University, and serves on the board of directors of visual art at Omi International Art Center.
ELIGIBLITY AND TERMS
- Any practicing artist creating work in the United States, with the exception of those currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree-granting program, is eligible to submit. The gallery is best-suited to displaying two-dimensional work, but can consider smaller and/or wall-mounted sculptural work and video. There are no size restrictions, but please note that wall height from ceiling to baseboard is 100”.
- There is a $20 submission fee. All fees go directly into offsetting administrative and programming costs for this new, not-for-profit space.
- Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery. All work will be insured under the gallery’s comprehensive policy while on gallery premises.
- Artwork submitted must be ready to hang, with clear instructions and hanging hardware, if necessary. Unframed drawings are acceptable if they can be hung with artist’s tape or other archival means.
- Artists may submit up to 3 images for consideration alongside their CV and artist’s statement. Please title your file names: “Last Name_Artwork Title.”

December 1, 2017 entry deadline
(January 19–March 3, 2018) open to all artists and artists working in pottery. Original work, no previous works, size limited to doorway, and must be for sale. By Hand is an international biennial fine craft competition. Handcrafted items include everything from furniture, elegant vases and jewelry boxes to wall hangings, pottery and sculpture made by hand from glass, clay, wood, metal and fiber.
Work selected by December 19th.
Fee: 40 for three entries.

At a time when there is a great resurgence of interest in Australian ceramics, the diversity
of practice is stretching traditional interpretations of what it is to be a maker.
To paraphrase the great Mexican writer Octavio Paz, contemporary Australian ceramics
does indeed transgress ‘the cult of utility and the religion of art’ and it is in the breadth
and ambition of its cultural and aesthetic reach that ceramics is finding new audiences
and a new way forward.
The Australian Ceramics Association Members Exhibition in Hobart will present
an overview of practice that showcases diversity and creates a space for dialogue.
Makers working across all styles are invited to submit proposals for MANIFEST.
Proposals should include a one-page CV, an outline of intended work
(no more than 200 words) and six images of recent work.
Deadline for proposals: 1 May 2018
Artists notified: 1 July 2018
Work due: 1 April 2019
Exhibition dates: May 2019; TBC
Exhibition location: Hobart, Tasmania; TBC
