The Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California
(ACGA), The Sonoma Community Center, and the Julia Terr Fund for Ceramic Arts
announce an open call for all ceramic artists to submit work to The Julia Terr Annual: A Juried Exhibition
of Functional Ceramic Arts.
The judge of the competition will be Forrest Lesch-Middleton
of Petaluma, California. All proceeds from the show will benefit the Sonoma
Community Center and the Julia Terr Fund for Ceramic Arts.
The deadline for submission is July 25, 2012. Artists will
be notified by August 5th. 
Selected work must be received by August 25th.
The exhibition will be held in the gallery of the Sonoma
Community Center on September 3rd to September 26, 2012.
Julia Terr was a ceramic artist from Cloverdale, California
who died in a car accident in 2009. Her family and friends established a fund
in her memory to support those institutions which provide continuing education in
ceramic arts in the United States. The
Julia Terr Fund for Ceramic Arts has donated money and kilns to Penland
School of Crafts; Ruby’s Clay Studio in San Francisco; Haystack Mountain School
of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine; and the Archie Bray Foundation for Ceramic Arts
in Helena, Montana.
Founded in 1953, the Sonoma Community Center has been meeting the cultural and
recreational needs of Sonoma Valley for more than 50 years. Currently, the Center
is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that sponsors programs in drawing,
painting, pottery and ceramics, theater, music and more.
The Association of
Clay and Glass Artists of California is dedicated to establishing and
maintaining high standards of craftsmanship and design in clay and glass with
over 500 members including clay and glass artists, students, patrons and
supporters, galleries, network organizations and corporate sponsors throughout
California.
Forrest
Lesch-Middleton is an accomplished ceramic artist whose work has been show
at The Northern Clay Center, Baltimore Clayworks, Trax Gallery, AKAR Gallery
among many others. He has a B.A from Alfred University in Ceramics and an MFA
in ceramics from Utah State University.

Residency opportunities @ Red Lodge Clay Center

In order to suit the needs of a variety of artists and maintain an
atmosphere of momentum and diversity, the Red Lodge Clay Center offers
two residency options. Year-long residencies run from September 1st
through August 15th. Short-term, proposal based residencies ranging from
one to eight weeks, are considered from September 1st through May 31st.
Please submit separate applications if applying for both residency
options.

The year-long residency is ideal for committed individuals in
transition from post baccalaureate studies to graduate school, as well
as those pursuing the development of professional artistic careers.
Self-directed ceramic artists searching for the time, space and
resources needed to explore new ideas and create new work will enjoy the
rural mountainous setting. Accepted residents will be provided with
studio space, housing, utilities, and a monthly stipend in exchange for
twenty hours of work per week at the Clay Center. Responsibilities will
include assisting in the retail operation of the gallery, teaching
community clay classes, as well as cleaning and maintenance of the
studio and gallery. Residents will be responsible for personal living
expenses, as well as all material and firing expenses. The application deadline is February 1st.

The short-term residency is ideal for the ceramic artist who is
working to complete a special project requiring one to eight weeks’
time. Accepted short-term residents are provided with studio space and
24 hour access to the studio. Fully furnished apartments are available
for $450.00 per month or a prorated basis congruent with the scheduled
residency. Short-term residents will be responsible for personal living
expenses, as well as all material and firing expenses. The application deadline is July 13, 2012 for residency proposals occurring between September 1st through May 31st.

Call To Emerging Artists: Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramists

The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery is pleased to
announce the call for submissions for the Winifred Shantz Award for
Ceramics.

To be eligible for the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics, artists must be Canadian citizens or have Permanent
Resident status. They must have developed skills through training and/or
practice in the field (not necessarily in academic institutions) and be
recognized by other artists working in the same artistic tradition.
Successful candidates have a history of professional public
presentations and publications, seek payment for their work, and
actively practice their art. All applicants have maintained an
independent professional practice for at least three to a maximum of ten
years prior to their application.

Clay Arts Vegas is located in the Arts District of downtown Las Vegas. The average attendance for First Friday
is approximately 10,000 visitors. The well lighted 600 square foot Victor F. Keen Gallery is open from 9am to 9pm
Monday through Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sunday. Clay Arts Vegas has a 2,200 square foot teaching facility and a
600 square foot ceramic supply store featuring Laguna Clay and Supplies.

“Never Has One Goblet Contained You”

(Posted: 5/18/12) — Clay Arts Vegas announces a call to artists for a national juried art exhibition;
August 25 -September 24 at the Victor F. Keen Gallery in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Jurors: Peter Jakubowski, John Gregg, Guest Wine expert. Open to all artists.
Work must be a functional drinking goblet made of ceramic. Just as the poet Pablo Neruda felt the need
to have many goblets to contain the beauty of his beloved, Clay Arts Vegas will fill its gallery with
goblets to try and contain our love of pottery.

Deadline: July 30, 2012. $10 per entry.

“What Goes Bump In The Night”

Sept 29 – October 31, 2012 at the Victor F. Keen Gallery in Las Vegas, Nevada. $300 first place, up to 3
$50 awards. Jurors: Peter Jakubowski, Marc Rosenthal, Guest juror. Open to all artists working in ceramics
as main media. May enter up to 3 pieces. From Henri Fuseli and his works that capture the art of the sublime,
to Peter Lenzo’s faces that hold the pain of personal suffering, there are many things in life that go bump
in the night. All work will use clay as the primary medium and capture what we fear in the dark.

Deadline: August 31, 2012

$30 for first piece entered; $20 each for second and third pieces.
