An Invitational and Juried Exhibition
The Clay Studio Is now accepting applications for Small Favors VIII,
an invitational and juried exhibition of diminutive works, each piece
exhibited less than 4”Length, 4”Width, and 4”Height. Online
applications will be accepted through March 31st, 2013. No paper
applications will be accepted.
View works from past Small Favors Exhibitions.
Small Favors challenges and engages artist’s creativity in new
and exciting ways with the challenge of making pieces for this
exhibition. For some artists, the work they create is similar to what
they normally make although at a reduced scale. Others use it as an
opportunity to break away from what they create in their daily studio
practice. Regardless of this choice, the works exhibited are incredibly
varied in material, form, and aesthetics. Though small in scale the
artworks created for this exhibition are huge in impact. Each work is
exhibited in a Plexiglas wall mounted cube.
Conceived of in 2006, Small Favors grew out The Studio’s
efforts to offer accessible, high-quality artworks that appeal to art
enthusiasts of all ages: for older collectors who are challenged for
space it allows them to continue to collect work by artists they love.
For young art collectors it provides an accessible entry point.
For the first time, The Clay Studio is putting out a call for entries
and accepting applications for this annual exhibition that has, up until
this point, been an invitation only show. It is our sincere hope that
this new process brings to light new makers and broadens the audience
we reach through the display of these unique works of art.

The CLAY 2013 International Juried Exhibition, A Tile & A Vessel,
will focus on a unique pairing: a tile and a vessel. The dynamic
between these two clay pieces is intriguing. The tile, typically
two-dimensional in nature, has the opportunity to express itself even
further through the three-dimensionality of the vessel. The vessel,
traditionally referring to a container, must exist in unison with the
tile. They must relate, play off of each other, and be unified in some
element of design.
Deadline for Entry: April 30, 2013
Date of Exhibition: August 2-3-4, 2013
Location of Exhibition: Silver City, New Mexico
Juror: Christy Johnson, Director of the American Museum of Ceramic Art (AMOCA)
First Place: $1000.00
Second Place: $750.00
Third Place: $500.00
Tile Heritage Prize: $200.00
