“Out of the Mold” Carbondale Clay National XIII is a national juried and invitational exhibition of ceramic art held annually at the Carbondale Clay Center Gallery in Carbondale, CO. It is open to ceramic artists throughout the United States. It will be juried by Andrea and John Gill.

Overview
The Banff Clay Revival residency acknowledges the resurgence of clay in contemporary art as a material of sculptural practice. In an age of digital technology where we are often detached from materiality and process, artists are returning to the tactile and elemental nature of clay.
Clay as a common material of domesticity, is an approachable and universal medium through which artists can communicate sophisticated intentions. This program will challenge artists to push the boundaries of form and tradition, collaborate, explore new building, firing, and glazing techniques, and redefine what the medium is capable of expressing.
What does the program offer?
Residencies offer the opportunity to create away from the constraints of everyday life. Participants are provided with a studio, accessible 24 hours a day, and access to our extensive shared facilities to further develop their production techniques. Knowledgeable staff are available to provide technical support and assistance.*
Throughout a period of five weeks, participants will benefit from a studio visit with a guest artist or curator, public lectures by visiting artists and guests, and demonstrations in a variety of ceramic production techniques.
Participants are surrounded by a community of artistic peers and have the opportunity to attend inspiring talks and performances by world-renowned artists, all within Banff Centre’s spectacular mountain setting.
This program is designed for participation over the entire five-week period. Variable dates will not be considered.
Who should apply?
Artists working in the mediums of ceramics and sculpture are invited to apply. Residencies are for visual artists with an exhibition record who have had formal training in visual arts, or equivalent experience and recognition from their peers.

Artists working in any discipline may apply for the Arts Center’s Arts/Industry 2019 program, which takes place at and is funded by Kohler Co. in Kohler, Wis. Each year, 16–22 artists are accepted for 2- to 6-month residencies in the Pottery or Foundry/Enamel areas of the factory. Artists-in-residence receive 24-hour access to studio space, materials, use of equipment, technical assistance, photographic services, housing, and round-trip transportation. The application deadline for 2019 residencies is May 31, 2018. Guldagergaard – International Ceramic Research Center is surrounded by a public park in which over the 20 years of its lifetime artists from all over the world have created sculptures for. Ceramic artists from Denmark, Australia, Mexico, UK, China, Sweden, Estonia and USA amongst others have contributed to the unique collection of this beautiful park. In continuation of celebrating Guldagergaard’s birthday on 8th of July 2018, we are inviting you to apply to become part of this very group of artists by coming and building a new outdoor sculpture.
This open call is for professional artists who are working with large-scale ceramic sculptures. The sculpture will be built on site, in the Guldagergaard sculpture park, and fired with gas and wood in the same location.
The dimensions of the work are set to H 220 cm x W 110 cm max , determined by the kiln size that was built for the fire sculpture of 2017.
The last day and mainly evening of the firing will become a public event with 100+ visitors attracted by the fire sculpture process. The event gets published in national and international publications.

Note: if you’re applying as a team of multiple artists, each author is expected to send his or her own Artist Statement and Portfoli
Guldagergaard – ICRC will cover part of the budget. The process and the work will be photographed by a professional photographer. The center also organises press releases for publicity and a public event celebrating the anniversary and showcasing the last stages of the firing on 7th of July 2018.

Overview
The exhibition and expansion of contemporary ceramic practice will include diverse approaches to ideas and senses of materiality involving clay and process. NCECA’s annual conference draws thousands of informed and enthusiastic followers, and practitioners of ceramic to a different region in the continental United States each year. The experience of the annual NCECA conference, while grounded within an urban convention center, is vastly enriched by the diverse array of exhibitions that NCECA works to situate and promote throughout its conference host region. The Concurrent Exhibitions proposal is the first opportunity offered in NCECA’s conference planning cycle to solicit exhibition concepts from the field that relate to and expand on the unique theme formulated for the host region of each of NCECA’s annual conferences.
Concurrent Exhibitions provide a platform for participating artists to engage with the global audience of ceramic enthusiasts to expand, challenge, and celebrate critical and aesthetic horizons of art made with clay. NCECA promotes Concurrent Exhibitions through the print conference guide, app, website, Blog and social media. NCECA makes efforts to cluster exhibitions within art/cultural districts as well as developing neighborhoods to maximize viewer attendance.
2019 Concurrent Exhibitions Focus
NCECA seeks exhibition proposals that incorporate clay as the principal medium of expression and have conceptual resonance with the theme of its 53rd annual conference, Claytopia. The conference will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota in March 27-30, 2019. Since the 1960s, the Twin Cities region has played a pivotal role in shaping a renaissance in studio pottery and craft as cultural forces. Adaptation of Mingei-inspired ideals within the American heartland drove a vision of artfulness in daily life. Claytopia will engage regional, national and international artists, thinkers, curators, educators, and students to produce an array of exhibitions and experiences that build on, respond to, celebrate, and push against ceramic art’s diverse legacies. Together, we will expand critical discourse on teaching, learning, aesthetics, social impacts, design thinking, and artistic production.
