In this exhibition, selected artists explore the concept of identity through their art. The questions asked are, “Who are you? What is your history and what makes you, you?” The curator/juror, Duane Reed, will be choosing work that explores ideas pertaining to cultural identity, psychological identity or personal narrative. Some of the invited artists include Sonya Clark, Gregory Grennon, Elizabeth Lo, Mark Newport and Joyce J. Scott. All featured works must be made of clay, glass, metal fiber or wood.

All work, whether functional or non-functional, must portray an aspect of the artist’s personal identity. We are accepting work made from clay, fiber, metal, glass or wood and created within the last 3 years.

Artists must be 21 years of age and reside in the United States.

A non-refundable entry fee for one or two entries is $35, checks made payable to Craft Alliance.

CALL FOR ENTRY Lillstreet’s Fourth Annual International Exhibition

This years Juror is Matthew Metz:
Matthew Metz has been a making his living as a studio potter for the last 20 years. He shares a home and studio in Alfred Station, NY with potter/educator Linda Sikora. Awards he has received include a NEA Crafts Fellowship, and two McKnight Fellowships. He shows and sells his pottery throughout the U.S. and internationally- including the St. Croix Potter’s tour, the Old Church Pottery Show, and the Philadelphia Craft Show. We are accepting applications for all functional vessels and vessels referencing function that pay special attention to surface treatment. The exhibition will run from August 26th – September 18th.

ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF INTERNATIONAL TRIENNlAL OF CERAMICS UNICUM 2012 within ZDSLU (Association of the Slovene Fine Arts Societies) and in cooperation with European Cultural and Technological Centre (EKTC) Maribor is setting up II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012 and parallel events all over Slovenia. The emphasis is on popularization as well as presentation of contemporary ceramics as an independent area in the field of artistic creation. Triennial is connection between international and Slovene space and it gives fresh insight into artistic ceramics. Its intention is to search through elementary artistic research in connection with contemporary though; the character of contemporaneity is given by individualism, development of personal artistic language and enriched by traditional influences of old technologies.
II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012 contains competitive part and accompanying events and exhibitions.
European Cultural and Technological Centre Maribor will host competitive part of the triennial as well as the international exhibition of ceramics of students from Art Schools and Academies chosen by invited mentors.
Accompanying events and exhibitions all over Slovenia will be organized: at Ljubljana Castle, in Koroška Gallery of Fine Arts Slovenj Gradec, in lapidary of Gallery Božidar Jakac in Kostanjevica on Krka, in Pilon Gallery in Ajdovščina, in Regional Museum of Murska Sobota, in the Grassel tower in Slovenska Bistrica.

Competitive part of triennial
RULES
Call for applications is international and public.
Any individual artist or group of artists who work in this media (ceramics) may participate in the II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012.
Members of the organizing committee, international jury and invited authors are not allowed to take part in the competitive part of triennial.
Each participant is allowed to submit up to three entries among which the international jury will make the selection.
Artworks without any ceramic techniques, technologies or approaches will be rejected. Ceramic artworks can include other materials which must not predominate.
By applying the artist assures that each ceramic artwork was created within last three years.
Costs of sending and returning artworks are author’s responsibility.

Applications
Applications to the competitive part of triennial with all documentation required should be sent via post or by e-mail.

Each author has to deliver:

  • Correctly filled entry form;
  • Three photographs of each ceramic artwork in required format and quality for printing.
  • All photos should be in JPG or TIF format, 300 dpi and marked as on the entry form.
    With application each author also allows the organizer to use all information from received documentation for promotion and the catalogue of the triennial.
    The organizer of the triennial does not take any responsibility for published information given by the authors in the application. The author is taking full responsibility for correctness of the information about him/her and his/her artwork.
    The organizer will not return the material that will be sent with applications. All the material will be kept in the archives of the triennial as a part of applications documentation.
    Artworks which will be selected on the base of received photographs authors can not exchange or replace with other artworks.

    Deadline for applications

    Deadline for application is 31st October 2011.
    The organizer will not consider incomplete applications.

    Selection of artworks and notification
    International jury will select artworks from received photographs in December 2011.
    List of selected authors will be announced on the web side of the triennial.

    Delivery of selected artworks
    Authors must deliver selected artworks by express mail (DHL, FEDEX…) or in person until 30th of April 2012 to the following address: II. International Ceramic Triennial Unicum 2012, European cultural and technological centre Maribor, Streliška cesta 150, 2000 Maribor, Slovenia. Timetable for delivery in person will be announced at a later date.
    Each work must be delivered in packaging required by established standards and usable for storage and return. In case the packaging is being unusable for return, the author is responsible for collecting his work personally, or it becomes the property of the organiser.
    Together with artworks authors have to send or bring photocopy of entry form to triennial.
    If selected artworks consist of several pieces the author has to add the plan for setting up the artwork at the exhibition.
    Artworks which will arrive damaged or ruined will not be exhibited and will be returned to the author together with note of the commission about the damage of the artwork. Costs of sending and returning artworks cover the author.

    Returning of artworks
    At the end of exhibition each author can pick up his/her artwork until 10th of October 2012 at the address: European cultural and technological centre Maribor, Streliška cesta 150, 2000 Maribor, Slovenia. After this date artworks will be returned to the author by express post on his/her expenses.

    Insurance of artworks
    Insurance of artworks during transport from author to organizer and back is author’s responsibility.
    Insurance of artworks during the exhibition is organizers expense.

    International jury
    Jury will consist of internationally known artists and experts of different fields of contemporary art from all over the world. International jury will consist of 4 members.
    International jury will make selection of works based on received photo documentation.
    Selection will be made considering creativity, power of artistic expression and design and technological quality.
    Jury will make selection for awards and recognitions.
    The decision of the jury is final.

    Awards and recognitions
    Awards and recognitions will be conferred at the opening of exhibition. Awards are:
    Grand Prix Unicum2012
    Honourable award Unicum 2012
    Recognitions Unicum 2012
    All the winners will be duly informed about granting of the awards and recognitions.
    Artworks that will receive awards and artworks that will receive recognitions will be with concordance of the author included into permanent collection of the triennial: Koroška Gallery of fine arts from Slovenj Gradec, Glavni trg 25, Slovenija.

    The exhibition of the triennial
    The opening of the II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012 will be on the 15th of May 2012 in European Cultural and Technological Centre Maribor, 2000 Maribor, Slovenia. The closing of the exhibition will be on the 30th of September 2012.

    The organizer will assure the setting up, protection and insurance of the exhibition in European Cultural and Technological Centre Maribor, 2000 Maribor, Slovenia. In case of any damage of artworks during the exhibition authors are entitled to financial compensation up to the value of artwork declared in the application form.

    Promotion
    Along with the exhibition of II. International Triennial of Ceramics Unicum 2012 there will be printed catalogue of the selected artworks and other promotion material. Authors of selected artworks will receive the catalogue free of charge.
    At the same time all accompanying events and exhibitions will be promotionally covered.
    The organizer of the triennial reserves a right to change the rules if that is in interest of quality course of events.

    Sobey Art Award Announces Call for Nominations for $50,000 award for Canadian artist

    The deadline for nominations is APR 1

    The Sobey Art Award is officially accepting nominations for this year’s prize. The $50,000 award is Canada’s premier visual art award given annually to a Canadian artist under 40 who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated.

    The five finalists of the 2011 Award will be announced in June, 2011. Selected work from the shortlisted artists will be featured in Halifax in an exhibition hosted by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia from September 17th, 2011 and run until January 8th, 2012. The winner of the 2011 Sobey Art Award will be announced during a gala event at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in October 2011.

    The 2011 curatorial advisory panel is made up of five distinguished representatives from a Canadian art gallery in each of the five regions: the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies and the North, and the West Coast and Yukon.
