call for entry: Ceramic Tile Competition

The Ceramics of Italy 2020 Tile Competition awards top North American architects and designers for their exceptional work and creative use of Italian ceramic or porcelain tile in built projects around the world. An international jury of design experts will review submissions from all over the continent and ultimately select winners in four categories – residential, commercial, institutional, and student.

Winners will receive $2,000 cash, an all-expenses-paid CEU-accredited trip to Bologna, Italy for Cersaie 2020, and the opportunity to present their projects in front of a large audience at Coverings in New Orleans.

The competition is presented by Confindustria Ceramica (the Italian Association of Ceramics) and the Italian Trade Agency. The deadline to enter is January 17, 2020. For more information, visit www.tilecompetition.com.

call for artists: Revealed Emerging Artist Series 2021

The Sculpture Center invites early career artists of the greater Ohio region whose practice includes sculpture, installation, mixed and expanded media, relational aesthetics, and performance to apply for inclusion in its annual Revealed Emerging Artist Series (formerly Window to Sculpture or W2S). Through this keystone program, now in its thirtieth year, The Sculpture Center fosters and promotes the careers of exceptional sculptors during the first ten years of their profession. Four to six artists are selected annually by a diverse Exhibition Committee for one-person, full gallery exhibitions of new work in either the Main Gallery (1000 sq. ft.), Euclid Avenue Gallery (750 sq. ft.) or new for 2021, the mixed-use outdoor Davis Courtyard. The 6-7 week long exhibitions will be held January 2021-June 2021.

The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts hosts a juried ceramic competition every two years. The competition is open to all artists who are residents of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. All work completed within the last two years, both functional and sculptural, is eligible.

 Juror: Jo Lauria, Los Angeles, CA

Jo Lauria is a Los Angeles-based curator, writer, and educator who received her curatorial training at The Los Angeles County Museum of Art.  She is a specialist in the fields of design, craft, and decorative arts, with particular emphasis on modern and contemporary studio ceramics.

Lauria is the organizer of several national touring exhibitions as well as author of numerous publications: biographies that chart the lives and work of contemporary designers and craft artists; and survey books that chronicle major movements in the field. Most recently she received the American Ceramic Circle Book Award for Ralph Bacerra: Exquisite Beauty. Currently she is a contributing writer to Ornament Magazine, Mentor Faculty of Otis College of Art and Design, and Adjunct Curator of the American Museum of Ceramic Art (California).

ASLD invites artists working in ceramic arts to participate in our national juried biennial exhibition in the fine art of dining. We are accepting digital submissions using callforentry.org. Open to artists 18 years and older who live and work in the United States. Entry fee is $30 for up to 5 digital images; membership is not required to submit. ABOUT THE JUROR

Liz Zlot Summerfield grew up in Northern California as a child of both an entrepreneur and a lover of the arts. Both parents instilled a determination and confidence in her that she could succeed at anything she worked towards.

She attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis to complete her Masters of Fine Arts in 2004. Since graduation, she has lived and worked as a studio artist in Bakersville, North Carolina with her husband and glass artist, Scott Summerfield. They share a large outbuilding that houses each of their studios and a showroom for their work. She has been an instructor and visiting artist at numerous clay facilities, colleges, and universities. She exhibits and sells her work nationally through exhibitions, galleries, and fine craft shows.

Her work resides in various permanent collections. She has been featured and on the cover of Ceramics Monthly and Clay Times magazine. She has also written several articles and created an instructional DVD produced by Ceramics Arts Daily featuring her ceramic process and her work.

In 2018 she co-created the Red Handed Symposium, a conference solely devoted to low-fire earthenware enthusiasts.
