this intimate workshop will explore surface techniques the can be used
on a wide variety of ceramic vessels .

Each participant will create a porcelain bowl with your own design.
What we are aiming for is a reflection of your own unique personality
with all it’s complexity, in your final design! Suitable for all levels
of experience.

A teabowl will serve as the
initial inspiration, this small vessel is the conduit to wider ideas
ranging from the importance of line, the true weight of volume, how to
solve technical design issues in all mediums from textiles to painting,
and what to do when you are at a creative dead end.


 Designed as creative boost for experienced artists in any
field, germinate your ideas with a day in Maleny and an intense burst of
inspiration.

call for entries: Craft NSW 2015 Emerging Artist Craft Award

 
 

The Society of Arts and Crafts of NSW invites emerging craftspeople in any craft discipline to submit entries for the Craft NSW 2015 Emerging Artist Craft Award.

Emerging craftspeople working in any area of craft may submit up to two
entries for consideration within a competitive selection process. Only
one entry will be included in the Award Exhibition. Entry is free.
For the purpose of this Award, an emerging artist is defined as someone who has practised their craft for 5 years or less.
The Award is limited to NSW residents only.
There will be 4 awards:
Major Award: $2000 and an invitation to exhibit work at Craft NSW for six months.
Minor Award: $1000 and an invitation to exhibit work at Craft NSW for six months.
Two Encouragement Awards: $500 each.
Important dates in 2015
June 30 – closing date for submission of entries
Aug 3 – announcement of short-listed artists
Sept 10 – delivery of work for exhibition
Sept 22 – exhibition opening and Award announcement

Janet DeBoos: A Survey

Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre is honoured to be presenting, Janet DeBoos: A Survey. A survey exhibition of Deboos’ work from the 1960s to 2015 guest curated by Peter Haynes and a major component of Stepping Up.

Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre invite the public to a series of
associated talks in conjunction with the exhibition. In particular, we
invite curators – new and established alike – to Peter’s talk, Evolution
of an exhibition: Peter Haynes on curating, being a perfect opportunity
to build on knowledge and gain valuable insights into curatorial
processes.

 

Evolution of an exhibition: Peter Haynes on curating

Guest-curator, Peter Haynes, one of Australia’s highly-acclaimed
curators and commentators of Australian ceramics, will share his
knowledge and expertise in an informal talk on the evolution of an
exhibition – from the background of curating a major exhibition to its
final execution. With over 35 years’ experience in curating, writing and
arts administration, Peter will provide unique insights into the
exhibition.

Janet DeBoos artist floor talk

When: Thursday 11 June, 2.00pm – 3.00pm
Where: Craft ACT Gallery
Cost: FREE
Iconic Canberra ceramicist and internationally renowned artist, Janet
DeBoos will present a floor talk in the Craft ACT Gallery, enlightening
visitors on the scope of her artistic production and career of over
fifty years.
