The Hungarian Multicultural Center Artist Residencies
The Hungarian Multicultural Center, Inc.R (HMC), 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, invites interested visual artists, writers, performers to submit application for its residency program in Budapest, Hungary. The residencies offer participants to interact with other artists representing a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Approximately 6-8 artists are invited for each session. Program Dates:

European Ceramic Context 2010 and Air Bornholm is cooperating on offering a six-week residency for up to eight talented ceramic Artists. Selected artists will be given the time and space to develop a new project or body of work in ceramics.
Two residencies are offered at Svanekegaarden.
Four residencies are offered at Møbelfabrikken.
Two residencies are offered at The Glass And Ceramic School on Bornholm.
Application deadline March 1st 2010.
Nature of the residencies:
The residency provides six weeks free access to studio facilities at either Svanekegaarden, Møbelfabrikken or The Glass and Ceramic School on Bornholm.
The residencies are offered to professional ceramic artists, who are expected to be proficient in the processes and techniques discussed in their residency application.
The residency will be provided with basic materials and access to kilns and firerings during this period.
The resident will be offered housing at either Svanekegaarden or Møbelfabrikken, depending on where the resident will be working.
The resident is responsible for organizing and paying for their own travels to and from Bornholm.
Residents will be responsible for providing, bringing or preordering any specialist materials other than the basics provided by ECC2010.
Assistance with contact info to suppliers in Scandinavia is available on request.
The resident must bring all specialist- and hand tools needed.
The period of the residency is granted to the named resident only, partners and other makers are not allowed to work in the studios during this time.
During the period of the residency it is incumbent on the resident to communicate, aid and assist his or her fellow residents in an open and friendly manner. This interaction and exchange is seen as being one of the benefits and challenges of the residence period.

Two residencies at Svanekegaarden
Work facilities
Each workshop space has a large and a small worktable for the artist to use. There is also an electric wheel, a spray booth, shelves for storage, etc., a kiln room with a large and a small electric kiln, and a large gas kiln. A small wood-fired African kiln is also available in the garden area.
Technical facilities
Cerama (120 l) electric kiln. Maximum temp. 1300°C.
Baltic Therm (500 l), electric kiln. Maximum temp. 1280°C.
Gas kiln (600 l) Maximum temp. 1300°C.
Electric wheel and kick wheel
Spray booth
Plenty of worktable and storage space available.
Small outdoor African wood-fired brick kiln. Maximum temp. 1050°C.
Practical information:
The facilities are designed for professional ceramists who work independently.
Ceramists must bring their own materials and hand tools other than basics provided by the residency.
Basic electricity and gas for firing the kilns will be provided by the residency, additional cost is to be charged on the basis of a meter reading.
The workshop may be used at any time of the day or night.
No workshop assistant is associated with the workshop, but a technical contact can be referred to.
The workshop’s technical equipment is covered by the general insurance terms and conditions, but this does not cover materials brought in by the artist, or the works of art made by the artist.
Other information
Residents will be offered accommodation in shared apartments in conjunction with the workshops at Svanekegaarden. Laundry facilities are available.
As a user of the workshop and accommodation facilities, the artist is responsible for keeping these clean and in good condition and for cleaning them on departure.
Four residencies at Møbelfabrikken
The ceramics workshop is set up in a large, bright factory hall in a former furniture factory in Nexø. The workshop is well-equipped and comprise a total of four workshop spaces for the production of ceramics.
Møbelfabrikken has an accommodation area with rooms that share a kitchen and lounge.

The workshop’s equipment is covered by the general insurance terms and conditions, but this does not cover broken drill bits or ruined grinding discs for which the artist is personally liable. The insurance does not cover materials brought in to the workshop or the artist’s own works of art.

An artists’ workshop that will be held in Ghana in July of 2010. The workshop will be hosted by Cross Cultural Collaborative, Inc. – an educational non-profit that encourages interaction between creative people from different cultures. The workshop will be held from July 11-24 outside of Accra, Ghana and will bring together artists, designers, and indigenous and contemporary potters from around the world. The workshop will be facilitated by Barbara Allen, an American potter and Kwao Adipah, a Ghanaian educator. The workshop itinerary will include: a visit to Vume, a traditional pottery village made famous by Michael Cardew, a visit to a contemporary ceramic studio, an opportunity to fire and build a paper kiln, visits to galleries and museums, a rare opportunity to work with indigenous house painters from northern Ghana.

The Workhouse Arts Center Ceramics Residency Program offers the emerging, pre-professional or professional ceramic artists the individual space and time needed for personal artistic growth in a dynamically cooperative educational environment. The Ceramics Residency Program provides the serious ceramics artist an opportunity and ability to function independently and to refine and exhibit their work, expand on their educational experiences, and contribute to the growth and promotion of the cultural arts in our Community, our Artists, Students, Ceramics program and the Lorton Arts Foundation. The new state of the art facility comprising 8,000 sq. ft. with 5- 220sq. ft. individual resident artist studio spaces, a dedicated retail gallery space for resident artists, classroom space, two indoor kiln rooms(8 kilns), outdoor gas kiln space, raku kiln, raw materials lab, slab roller, extruder, clay mixing room and spray booth allows the artist to expand their use of a variety of tools and processes available for the ceramic artist.
Requirements
The Workhouse Arts Center Ceramics Program is a dynamically creative and educationally cooperative environment. Facilities and equipment resources are offered at a reasonably low rate. * Minimum 25 hours of weekly presence in studio (working) and gallery watch in our dedicated Ceramics Gallery. * Active contribution and participation towards growth and daily operational activities of Ceramics program by instructing(paid), assisting, mentoring, supervising or maintaining various areas of program. * Follow all guidelines, procedures and policies as set forth in contract and residency program guidelines.
Eligibility
Ceramic Artists with a substantial background/working knowledge of ceramic techniques and processes including hand-building and/or wheel-throwing, firing and glaze making skills. All accepted applicants will go through a short orientation and training on studio procedures and guidelines with the Ceramics Director and must follow all safe handling practices with materials and equipment.
Costs
The Workhouse Arts Center Ceramics Residency Program is a component of the Workhouse Arts Center Ceramics Program. Cost is $3,960.00 per year or 330.00/month. Yearly membership with Workhouse Arts Center, Electric and Gas Firing fees (bisque or glaze), clay and use of raw materials are an additional fee. Credits which can be applied toward firing and raw material costs are given for contributory hours in Ceramics Program. Newly Accepted residents may begin at any time during the calendar year and with approval of Ceramics Director. The Workhouse Arts Center Ceramics Residency Program is limited to 5 Ceramic Artists.

Review of applications for residency program is ongoing.
