PATCHWORKED IN CANADA by Dear Human
Funded by Canada Council for the Arts, Dear Human’s “Patchworked In Canada” isa two stage project: First, as a mural made from 1200 reworked vintage
Portuguese tiles, exhibited this month at the Toronto Design Offsite Festival’s
hub. Then it takes to the streets as an interactive urban art project. Throughout
select areas of Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, the tiles will be tagged as
individual installations, to be found and taken home by lucky and observant
finders.

finding unanticipated beauty in the urban landscape, inviting a moment
of pause and response. The search for these small offerings is an open invitation to explore and play.

current US politics attempting to reverse human and women’s rights, I create
art to keep these rights moving forward. Much of my body of work consists of
feminine-inspired forms and objects with strong female content. The colors and
topics are loud but I also work to inject humor into these heavy topics. It is
clear to me that Women’s and Civil Rights have come under heavy fire in the
political realm. I strive to make work that is functional and domestic,
attempting to keep these conversations at the ‘everyday’ level, thereby making
my art more inclusive for multiple audiences, as opposed to limiting it to
specific groups or sites. Clay is
my material of choice because it is a malleable material that encourages
touching. I am interested in seeing how the soft becomes strong, and I am
pleased with the tactile sensations of the finished projects.

27th Annual North Carolina Potters Conference
ABOUT CONFERENCE
The North Carolina Potters Conference is a premier ceramics
conference. Through its history the conference has featured the some of
the best ceramics artists from around the world. This conference
centers on simultaneous demonstrations cultivating a dialogue of
techniques, concepts, and experiences between the artists and the
audience. Unlike other conferences, you do not have to pick and choose
with workshops to attend. All the demonstrations and presentations are
scheduled for the entire group. Potters at any skill level will come
away with new ideas and inspiration to improve their work. Even
non-potters have found the weekend a worthwhile introduction into the
world of ceramics.
