Snowmass Village, CO – Anderson Ranch Arts Center is pleased to announce its continued efforts to offer expanded year-round educational programs, artists’ opportunities and studio access. New and expanded programming include the second year of Fall and Spring Weekend Workshops, January Studio Immersive and increased Artists’ Opportunities which includes call for entries for exhibitions, studio rentals, private lessons, open studios, equipment and facility collaboration and rental and portfolio review. These innovative programs complement the robust Summer Workshops program for which the Ranch is most recognized and were conceived with the purpose of increasing year-round access to the Ranch’s talented artistic staff, state-of-the-art facilities and open and supportive community and campus. WEEKEND WORKSHOPS Weekend Workshops will be offered on the first weekend of every month in the fall: October, November, December and in the spring: February, March & April. Available in a wide spectrum of disciplines for artists of all levels these affordable one- and two-day workshops are taught by our amazing staff of artists. Most classes are open to all levels, so the program is equally suitable for the professional artist as for the novice who has always wanted to try their hand at art making or to experiment with a new medium or technique. JANUARY STUDIO IMMERSIVE, JANUARY 3-21, 2011 Anderson Ranch is proud to announce another major program initiative—the three-week January Studio Immersive. In its second year, this program is designed as a mix between the Artists’ Residencies and our Workshops programs. Approximately 30 students (accepted via juried review) will receive a generous studio and access to every technical facility on the Ranch. This is an incredible opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary study with the assistance of the Ranch’s artistic staff, as well as critical dialog with visiting critics. Participants will be encouraged to diversify their practice and explore the broad array of mediums including painting/drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, woodworking/furniture design, film and digital photography and new media. Visiting critics from some of the best MFA programs will be present to provide critical and professional advice to every participant. The 2011 Studio Immersive critics will include David Humphrey and Charles Long. Previous visiting artists/critics at Anderson Ranch include Judy Pfaff, Stephan Westfall, Polly Apfelbaum, Brian Toll, Mala Iqbal and Sanford Biggers. The January Studio Immersive runs January 3-21, 2011. “Prairie Excellence is a unique and ground-breaking joint project of the Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta Craft Councils. The competition and exhibition, accompanied by awards, a catalogue, a website, and a multi-province tour, involved several years of idea generation, negotiation, planning, fundraising, administration, shipping and handling, photography, design and other duties by boards, staff and volunteers from all three councils. It entailed the participation of more than 160 craft artists across three provinces. Indeed, there were a few occasions when the entire idea seemed simply too much. But the risk and the work of countless people paid off.”
