The cup is one of the most basic of forms, but provides infinite possibilities. Baltimore Clayworks is looking for cups that are visually compelling and serve their purpose. They welcome a broad definition of Cup, which may include cups, mugs, tumblers, tea bowls, yunomis — with trays or saucers or not, sets or not. The cups must be functional in a utilitarian way. Daily Companions is open to ceramic artists who reside
in the United States. Work must have been completed in the past two years. Clay must be the primary material. All works must be for sale

About the Exhibition:

Currents: Influenced by Place, is a national (USA) juried exhibition that highlights our personal connection to clay through place. Whether it is our current location, where we came from or where we anticipate going, physically and mentally, our sense of place affects us as artists. Sponsored by H.O.T. Clay, and organized by its members, the exhibition will take place at the Focus Gallery, at the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida.

Eligibility:
The show is open to anyone nationwide 18 years of age or older. Submitted work should be at least 60 percent clay and must have been completed within the last 2 years.

Dates and Location:
The opening reception will take place Friday, December 2nd from 7pm to 9pm at the Focus Gallery at the University of Florida. All accepted works must be shipped and returned at the cost to the artist. If your work is accepted, please deliver it with a return shipping form that has been paid for in advance. All works that do not include return shipping will be considered a generous donation to the H.O.T. Clay Club.

Entry Procedures:
Submission in digital format via CD is required. Each CD should contain your entry images (jpeg 1200×900 at 300 dpi) as well as a brief artist’s statement, resume, and completed entry form in PDF Format. Up to three entries with one detail image per entry may be submitted. Works that differ from submitted images beyond acceptable parameters will not be shown. Images should be labeled as such: LastnameFirstnameEntrynumber.jpg. Please add “detail” when necessary.

Application Information:
There is a non-refundable entry fee of $25 per artist, with a maximum of 3 works per individual. Please make checks payable to University of Florida.

Call for entries: 2012 NICHE Awards

The NICHE Awards competition is open to professional craft artists over the age of 21 who reside in America or Canada and are actively involved in the design and production of craftwork supplied to galleries and/or craft stores. The NICHE Student Awards competition is open to any craft student residing in and attending an American or Canadian undergraduate, graduate or certificate arts program. Submitted work must have been produced or introduced after August 31, 2010 to be eligible. Work previously submitted to the competition will not be accepted. Artists may enter as a student for up to one (1) year after graduation; however, work submitted must have been produced while an artist was still a student. Professionals may only submit work produced within the U.S. or Canada. Work produced in secondary studios within other countries may not be submitted. NICHE magazine reserves the right to merge categories that do not accrue an appropriate number of applications. The only way to enter the 2012 NICHE Awards or 2012 NICHE Student Awards is by completing an application online. Paper applications will not be accepted. One application per artist is allowed. Each application allows for up to three pieces of work to be submitted; no more than two pieces may be submitted in the same category. The competition is judged on a per piece basis, not on an application basis. It is therefore possible to be up to a three-time winner. Artists may enter in either the professional division or student division, not in both. Entries must be submitted by the artist in the artist’s name, not in the name of a company or school. No additional images showing detail will be accepted for jurying. The image photo submitted may be enlarged by the judges to see detail. Each image must be a separate piece of work and show the work in its entirety. Applicants may not enter an individual piece in more than one category. Installation art will not be accepted in any category. The cost to enter is $40 for professional, $20 for current Buyers Market exhibitors and $18 for students. ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE: CERAMICS ART, VALLAURIS, FRANCE

A.I.R. Vallauris: Artists in Residence, Vallauris France www.air-vallauris.org Located in the heart of the old town of Vallauris, on the French Riviera, the association A.I.R. Vallauris (Artists in Residence) welcomes international artists from all horizons to meet and collaborate with local artists and to research and create new work in an artistic laboratory created specifically for them. The Association has four primary objectives:
To host resident international artists
To support contemporary creation
to provide eduation in the field of Ceramic Arts
to organize cultural events Created in October 2001, the Association A.I.R. Vallauris, since April 2002, welcomes several artists at a given time in its residence and studios available to the artists. There are several different residency periods to choose from, and the durations vary. The creators using different mediums benefit from an equipped studio, independent furnished bedrooms and a gallery where their works are presented at the end of the residency period. The quality of the artistic creation is one of the major concerns or the program; the selection committee evaluates applicants based on their artistic experience, merit and project proposal. Since April 2002, over 130 creators of 30 different nationalities have taken part in the program. The Association encourages and facilitates interaction between local artists and international artists. Workshops, conferences, demonstrations exhibitions are organized with the resident artists. These events are open to the public. Through partnerships with the local School of Fine Arts, the local government, and international organizations a sensibility of exchange between the public, artists, and international is realized. Call For Entries: Finer Things, A Juried Contemporary Craft Exhibition

November 4 – December 12, 2011

The sUgAR Gallery in Bentonville, AR, is seeking submissions for a juried, contemporary craft exhibit. Regional and national entries are accepted. All work should exemplify excellence in craft, including but not limited to pottery and ceramics, basket weaving, painting, weaving and textile arts, woodcarving, jewelry and glass blowing. The juror is Leo Mazow, PhD., Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Arkansas and former Curator of American Art at the Palmer Museum of Art at The Pennsylvania State University. The sUgAR Gallery is a student-run collaboration between the Departments of Architecture, Art, Landscape Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Arkansas. This progressive gallery facilitates new opportunities for the University of Arkansas’ visual art, architecture and design community to connect directly with Northwest Arkansas’ creative industry. – A maximum of 3 works, two images per work for a total of 6 images on a CD
– All works must be original, created within the last two years, and not exceed 60” in any dimension
– Images should be 300 dpi, minimum 4” x 6” in .jpeg format
– Files should be labeled with artist’s last name and title of work
– CD should be labeled with artist’s name and contact information (including email) and include an inventory list (with prices) and artist statement as separate files
– Accepted work should be exhibit-ready, with appropriate hardware for display
– Artists are responsible for shipping to and from the exhibition
– The sUgAR Gallery takes a 20% commission on sales with all proceeds funding future exhibits at the gallery
